- 168 Asian Mart
Michigan evening for Chinese groceries before driving to Iowa in the morning. Korean-style rice grown in the U.S. is something we don't see back home. The vegetables and sauces are much the same as everywhere. (168 Asian Mart, John R Road, Madison Heights, Michigan) 20160502 - 2 St. Clair Avenue West
View northward on Yonge Street from shows trees of Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and the towers along Eglinton Avenue and beyond. Before 1973, the subway only ran to Eglinton Avenue, called North Toronto, and Rosedale up to St. Clair Avenue was the affluent residential area. This intersection isn't the destination that it used to be. (2. St. Clair Avenue West, Deer Park, Toronto, Ontario) 20161005 - 887 Queen Street East
Building on corner wrapped up for deconstruction. Pharmacy moved east to another location a few months ago, in anticipation. Ground frost and snow could be a month away, so site could be ready for construction when temperatures warm up again. (887 Queen Street East at Logan Avenue, Riverside, Toronto, Ontario) 20161115 - @Nuvango Gallery DwD
Sustainable Design for Flourishing Fashion led by @KellyOkamura at Design with Dialogue event a little farther west on Queen Street. Second floor gallery hardwood floors and high ceilings on renovated building reminders of Toronto 100 years ago, when manufacturing industries reigned. (Nuvango Gallery, Queen Street West, Toronto) 20160413 - @Nuvango Gallery DwD

(Nuvango Gallery, Queen Street West, Toronto) 20160413 - Absolute Bakery
Wider selection of breads in front window of neighbourhood bakery, pies and pastries in the cases behind. Chose rye bread for a change, will return for multigrain on another trip. Weather 6 degrees C and cloudy, no snow on the ground meant opportunity for bicycling on a mild Toronto day. Continuing pattern of sampling non-artisanal bakers around town. (Absolute Bakery, Parliament Street, Cabbagetown, Toronto, Ontario) 20160126 - AC005 YYZ-HND
Flight delay of 2 hours to 3:45pm had me falling asleep in Maple Leaf Lounge, as I stayed awake and worked through last night. Mechanical problems means will arrive in Tokyo after sunset, so body schedule will probably be confused. New release movies haven't changed since last flight, so I'm spending too much time on long hauls. (Air Canada 005, Toronto Pearson to Tokyo Haneda) 20160309 - Accelerated Discovery Lab
Discussing @rarar @snousala trajectories of design and research, appreciating generational evolution as interactive technologies have risen. Puzzle includes design at user interface level, and in enterprise systems. (Accelerated Discovery Lab, IBM Almaden Research Centre, San Jose, California) 20161025 - Aeon Market Granpark
End-of-day clearance take-out sushi in Tokyo supermarket is better than some restaurant food on other side of ocean. Large display of Florida navel oranges is twice the price of local varieties. Full service supermarket is in basement of complex across the street from usual hotel in Shibaura district. Flight to Haneda was delayed by 2 hours, so friends went for dinner without me. (Aeon Market Granpark, Shibaura, Minato, Tokyo) 20160310 - Aikido Shugyo Dojo
Adult basic martial arts class of one hour is long when it's one-to-one with senior instructor. Dojo remains true to posted hours during holiday season, even with regular class leaders away. Learned stretching, moving, then wrist locks. Many details to perfect over time. Had tried out dojo last spring, my attendance should more predictable over the next few months. (Aikido Shuygo Dojo, Carlaw Avenue, Leslieville, Toronto, Ontario) 20161229 - Air China First Class Lounge, PVG
Recliner sleeping pods at Pudong airport in Shanghai, in a secluded corner of the Air China Lounge. Checking in at 6:20 a.m. for an 8;20 a.m. flight after a full night's sleep means the affordance unfortunately wasn't useful this morning. Would have liked this feature later in the day in Tokyo. (Air China First Class Lounge, Pudong International Airport PVG, Shanghai, China) 20160319 - Alec Tsoucatos, Wednesday plenary
ISSS 2016 Boulder plenary - ANA Lounge, Haneda International Terminal
Curry rice, chicken karage, fried noodles quite standard. Hot and sour soup a funny Japanese thin variety. Haven't tried udon noodle bar. Buffet low on food with fibre, no fruit. Late night flying westbound into Asia. I will be back in 6 days, on connection eastbound home. (ANA Lounge. Haneda Airport International Terminal, Tokyo, Japan) 20160313 - Anand Kumar, Thursday plenary
