- USF Kalmanovitz Hall
Pattern language on federated wiki @michaelwmehaffy #puarl2016, not frozen in text inside book. Search hits for pattern language in architecture is one-tenth that in software development. Proposes extending the 1977 A Pattern Language content online in the living form originally described in the work itself. Mehaffy dissertation including real-time updating of charts with federated wiki was defended at TU Delft in November 2015. (Kalmanovitz Hall, University of San Francisco, California) 20161030 - USF Kalmanovitz Hall
Context on Max Jacobson #puarl2016 paper on @EdRobertsCampus, saying architect recognised experts are the vision-impaired and wheelchair users of the facility. no pattern language for them. More important than beauty is the collective space welcoming interaction between parties in the facility. Jacobson was a coauthor with Christopher Alexander of 1977 A Pattern Language, then practicising architect with Murray Silverstein for 35 years. Had been teaching at USF as adjunct for past few years. (Kalmanovitz Hall, University of San Francisco, California) 20161030 - USF Cowell Hall
Presented paper at #puarl2016 conference in one of four parallel tracks. Audience ranged from newcomers to the body of work, through to a coauthor with Christopher Alexander of the original 1971 A Pattern Language book. About 100 attendees at this conference. USF is still lively on a Saturday with singing and music competing in the main room through a thin room partition wall. (Cowell Hall, University of San Francisco, California) 20161029 - United Club, SFO
Of the six of us leaving SFO today, I am on the latest flight direct. Dropped DY at West Oakland BART station at 9 a.m., she should have arrived in Vancouver before I depart to Toronto. The whole family is at ease through airports. (Club United, International Terminal, San Francisco International Airport. California) 20160620 - TTC Leslie Barns
Maintenance pit @TTCLeslieBarns @Doors_OpenTO under streetcar. Facilities are well lit and brightly coloured, seems like a good working environment. Outside, rode around tracks with tight curves, then streetcar drove through washing and sanding stations. (TTC Leslie Barns, Lake Shore Boulevard East, Toronto, Ontario) 20160528 - Trinity Bellwoods Park
Bust of Simon Bolivar looking over Farmers Market on late Tuesday afternoon. Lots of bikes and baby strollers in the denser west end of town. I was riding the bike without baskets, so no shopping, just tourism. (Trinity Bellwoods Farmers Market, Dundas Street West at Shaw Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20160823 - Torpedo Factory Art Center
Mobiles of wooden geese flying in chaos, viewed from third floor hanging in stairwell down into second floor. The complex of working artists studios in a former munitions factory had great variety, for a cold rainy day on the west bank of the Potomac River. (Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria, Virginia) 20160320 - Toronto Sculpture Garden
An Te Liu (2015) Animal Vegetable (I) on top of Vegetable Mineral (I), part of six bronze castings in the Sold State installation. First installed with Nuit Blanche 2015 last fall. Waterfall on east wall cooling on a warm summer day. (Toronto Sculpture Garden, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20160711 - Toronto Reference Library
Came to browse book available only in physical form, then reminded that a lot of people use the reference library for computer access, and/or a meeting place. The convenience of the Internet from home and then a local branch gives a luxury of rarely having to travel far for knowledge. (Toronto Public Library, Asquith Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20160423 - Toronto Pearson Terminal 1
One destination, two routes. DY on 8 a.m. to New Orleans on way to Denver, I am on 8:30 direct. She's flying on points, saved enough for another trip to Vancouver. I signed up to defer from overbooked flight to later, but UA doesn't need that seat for someone else. (Toronto Pearson Airport, Terminal 1) 20160723 - Toronto Eaton Centre
Two-below is now labelled as Level 1, and three-below is Urban Eatery. Brightness in open atrium and short elevator deceive the reality of being underground. Subway entrance is another escalator ride upstairs. Construction on the main floor above that is visible on Yonge Street. Walked into mall to escape summer heat. (Toronto Eaton Centre) 20160828 - Tommy Thompson Park
Pedestrian bridge between Cell C and Embayment C open on an early Tuesday evening, so can't continue to lighthouse. Fisherman each trying a variety of lures, no success while I was there. The spit is rather long for a walk, it's good for a leisurely bike ride. (Tommy Thompson Park , Toronto, Ontario) 20160531 - Tommy Thompson Park

Kyoichi Jim Kijima delivers final lecture on Systems Theory, Thinking and Sciences, in Japanese. Formal retirement is at end of month. Lecture auditorium is full of colleagues, former students and friends, both locally to Japan, and internationally. (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Ookayama, Japan) 20160312
