- Pearl Street Mall
Rock waterfall on pedestrian mall has flowers painted on, and a few leaves stuck on. Escaped conference on evening to get off campus and see the town, restaurants and stores open. Relaxed pace for slow stroll back over a big hill onto campus. (Pearl Street Mall, Boulder, Colorado) 20160725 - CSI 192
First salad day @csiTO, second official day in new building after the move across the street. Acknowledgement of traditional lands, plus back stories from DECAs. Conversation tables set up with suggested discussion starters on the theme of home. Contributed homemade daikon carrot pickle resulting from spouse having bought too many root vegetables. I'm not Vietnamese, but can follow a simple recipe. (Centre for Social innovation, 192 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20180925 - Fortune Seafood
Father's Day early dinner, as bookings at Chinese restaurants are heavy. Double lobster, clams, pork chop, chicken, plus stir-fried mushrooms and a tofu casserole for me to maintain a plant-based diet. (Fortune Seafood Restaurant, Midland Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario) 20180617 - The Local Restaurant
Pizza in progress in the oven of the resto in the school of hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. Lead professor seated us, saying that only two students had showed up as servers, and they were new. The technician (facility manager) tried to fill in more, but we were more interested allowing the students to learn. (The Local Restaurant, Centennial College, Progress Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario) 20170324 - Trompe d'oeil mural
Not a back door into a garden on the west side of Bleeker Street south of Wellesley Street, but instead some brightness on the long brick wall of Fudger House. Paint is fading, could use a retouch. - Onsite Gallery
Measuring and Being @pete5000 lecture, visiting from London while @ONSITEatOCADU had programmed Diagrams of Power exhibition. Quantified Self now records statistics digitally, the data assemblage can reinforce a belief system, or be a critical visualization of unexamined ways of thinking. Historically, this goes back to industrialization, when clocks also changed perceptions of time. This talk may evolve on the way to publication as a book chapter. (Onsite Gallery, OCADU, Richmond Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20180920 - Dead End Studio
Opening reception installation @PTSDalchemy paintings @playthink "It's All in Your Head". Crystals shaped naturally, responding to emotional impressions focused on raw shapes. Cubism on canvases, exploring brain-body connections. (Dead End Studio, 7 Fraser Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20180830 - Pearson Terminal 1
Express speedwalk seems slower and longer today, en route to Helsinki foot 3 weeks. Seats on flight to Frankfurt not full today. Weather at destination if expected to be about the same as at home. (Toronto Pearson Airport, Terminal 1) 20160130 - Riverdale Cemetery, Parkway, Park
View eastward on warm late winter from Toronto Necropolis, overlooks Don Valley Parkway, and Riverdale Park East in the distance with apartment towards Danforth Avenue. Can see through the trees, but leaves will obscure the view in a few weeks (Toronto) 20120311 1714 - Maple Leaf Square
Bass booms from Drake concert shook the 24th floor apartment in building next door to the Scotiabank Arena. Our host hasn't heard a concert that loud, before. Brief torrential downpours earlier in the evening subsided, I wished I had biked over instead of taking the streetcar and subway. (Maple Leaf Square, Bremner Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario) 20180821 - Betty's
After @DrupalTO meetup, social @BettysOnKing. Large group accommodated on a Monday night, casual time discussing common technical experiences. Some familiar faces from previous events. (Betty's, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20170227 - Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu
Christmas eve Sunday a tough day to have a birthday lunch, with many restaurants closed. Korean hosts welcomed us as a family, giving us extra dishes. (Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu, Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20171224 - Cemetery visit in the rain
Family visiting from out of town meant limited window for annual visit to gravesites. Waited on car for a break in the rain, which turned out to be brief. Digging into sod for new plants deterred by hitting clay. Threaded time together with other events on a busy weekend schedule. (Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Ontario) 20150530 - Rudys Cant Fail Cafe
Brunch Dazed and Confused plate of scrambled eggs with chorizo, pasilla chiles, and house-made hollandaise sauce on hash browns. When my black bean burger arrived, the next table exclaimed "Onion Rings!" they could have had instead of fries. Local diner is well known for its name from a Clash song and part ownership by a member of Green Day. (Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe, Hollisville Street, Emeryville, California) 20220430 - Absolute Bakery
Wider selection of breads in front window of neighbourhood bakery, pies and pastries in the cases behind. Chose rye bread for a change, will return for multigrain on another trip. Weather 6 degrees C and cloudy, no snow on the ground meant opportunity for bicycling on a mild Toronto day. Continuing pattern of sampling non-artisanal bakers around town. (Absolute Bakery, Parliament Street, Cabbagetown, Toronto, Ontario) 20160126
