- Gaoler's Mews
Incongruity of having lunch at vegan MeeT at Gastown restaurant, beside L'Abbatoir named for the city's former main butchery and meat packing distict. Opted for a Beyond Burger special not on the regular menu, that looked and had the sensation of a rare beef patty. While not terrible, I prefer the denseness of the veggie burgers that we've had for decades. Dining al fresco in warm spring weather. (MeeT at Gastown, Gaoler's Mews, Water Street, Vancouver, BC) 20180426 - Nino D'Aversa
Racks of bread less busy than larger hot table buffet and espresso bar care areas. This brand is delivered to our local grocery store downtown, but the selection isn't always there. Took home a loaf of ciabatta unsliced to judge freshness. Was in the neighbourhood, so a modest tour of cuisine nearby. (Nino D'Aversa Bakery, Glen Cameron Drive, Thornhill, Ontario) 20160128 - Canadian Studies essay prize for Eric Ing
Eric Ing receives the 2012 Canadian Studies essay prize from Emily Gilbert (Director, Canadian Studies program) and Julie Mehta (Professor, Diasporic Asian Canadian Literature), at University College, University of Toronto 20121003 1649 - Ignite Gallery
Water-worn bricks from #LeslieStreetSpit now @brandonceli (2020-2022) Rock Sculptures, painted with acrylic to resemble digital music players and smartphones obsoleted with time. Part of the #ElectricCircus exhibition @OcaduIgnite gallery, reflecting on imperfections in technology that might present an opportunity to change direction. Biked over late for the OCADU Gallery Crawl, missing the guided tour in favourite of a quieter visit. (Ignite Gallery, OCADU, McCaul Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20220402 - Booth Avenue berries in snow
The red berries are still on the mountain ash tree next door, boughs weighed down by snow. The first time that I've had to shovel the walk in front of our house in Toronto this year, after Christmas. Trying to be productive during the workdays, physical activity deferred until almost desk. (Toronto Riverside) 20121227 1655 - The Ossington
Interview @mervatim by @emilymkeeler relates history of Katherine Briggs and Isabel Myers leading to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, for the launch of The Personality Brokers book. Entertaining stories from English professor author and audience on misuse of projective personality techniques by managers. My teachings express human beings as more multidimensional, and I prefer the Keirsey temperament sorter more strongly aligned with Carl Jung. (The Ossington, Ossington Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20180917 - The Theatre Centre
Conclusion of #NoForeigners Derek Chan @Aprillx @fuGENTheatre @HongKongExile closing performance. Inventive production with shadow puppets in front of five monitors voiced by live actors, last moments sees real humans in front of the big screen come out of the dark. Full house, with a bright winter Sunday outside. (The Theatre Centre, Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20180225 - 20111112-Planters-EastYorkCivicCentre
With frost coming, does the city put cabbages into its planters? I'm not a gardener, so I don't recognize flora well. (East York Civic Centre) 20111112 1549 - Harbourfront
Glass studio @HarbourfrontTO quiet inside, new glass to melt at 2050°F or 1220°C. Contrast to the web side of the building, full of visitors and music playing on a summer Sunday. Quick tour of the galleries, I haven't seen the exhibitions in a few months. (Harbourfront Centre, Queen Quay West, Toronto, Ontario) 20180729 - Riverside district
Backyard visitors coming through garage for Betty's Paper Arts Estate sale. For 2 weeks, DY has been sorting through contents originally packed away and stored after Betty's basement flooding. Then Betty unexpectedly passed away from surgical complications. This Sunday, the scrapbooking community has come together to redistribute the supplies. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20180603 - Smart Cities and Urban Design
Painting by Professor WU Xingkuan in honour of formal opening of SCUD International Smart Cities and Urban Design Conference. Our group had the first plenary session slot, and we learned more about each others' research focus, because the prior meetings have been much more on process rather than content. We'll refine our collective direction, with diverse perspectives and interests as our strength. (2018 International Conference on Smart Cities and Urban Design, Xiongchu International Hotel, Hongshan district, Wuhan, PR China) 20180422 - Fall Dusk Riverdale Park
Looking west over Riverdale Park towards downtown Toronto, cool overcast fall day, but leaves on trees still haven't turned yellow or red. Living near Lake Ontario, frost comes at us slower. (Toronto) 20111023 1802 - Helsinki City Museum
Helsexinki exhibition celebrates sexuality, gender and sex. Equal Marriage Act came into force in March 2017, legalizing same-sex marriage beyond the Registered Partnership Act in 2001. This new museum building opened near Market Square and the Senate in May 2016. (Helsinki City Museum, Aleksanterinkatu, Helsinki, Finland) 20171205 - Windsor Parks Lakes
Pavilion at east end of man-made lake in gated subdivision at the western periphery of Houston. Cool, cloudy day, but warm enough to be bicycling along winding roads around two storey houses. (Houston, Texas) 20141206 - Hayward Area Historical Society
Hand pump fire engine @HaywardAreaHist made circa 1825, used in San Francisco 1849-1870, and then in Hayward until the mid-1880s. Part of the collection of local history, including an exhibit on internment of Japanese Americans in WWII, and the subsequent return of their property. Encountered museum sign downtown, after the GPS decided that I should leave the freeway and drive city streets. (Hayward Area Historical Society Museum of History & Culture, Foothill Boulevard, Hayward, California) 20170315
