- Merit Vegan
Ex-vegans @rarar @liv_bryce and omnivore @teh_allchemist accommodating my prescribed diet for tofu and eggplant in selecting a dining spot. Indulged in non-dairy desserts. Learning about each other's backstories, there are surprises in the contexts that make sense in appreciating life journeys. Served by waiter who we're convinced really enjoys the foods he recommends. (Merit Vegan, Merit Expressway, Sunnyvale, California) 20180510 - Temple at Kikuicho
Carp in pond at temple, one of six pauses extending the 30-minute morning walk to an hour. Water trough here had toothbrushes and facecloths out, perhaps for people who don't have a home. Temple is partially behind a 7-11 store, no English labeling for less fame than the Honshoji temple a little further south, and the Seigenji temple a little further west. - Bissell Building
UToronto iSchool students self-organizing into teams who will lead presentation-facilitation in the Systems Thinking, Systems Design Information Workshop running for 6 weeks. Started lecture with student reading the syllabus on their phones and computers, due to AV issues with equipment in the room. (Bissell Building, St. George Street, University of Toronto) 20180110 - Baotong Temple Vegetarian
Our group shared the widest variety of Buddhist vegan cuisine that I have ever encountered. We were hosted by the restaurant manager, whose son had been guided to graduate studies abroad by SN. The luxury of a large, air-conditioned room on the second floor, meticulously prepared foods and attentive servers were a refreshing follow-on from climbing uphill through many temple halls, and navigating steep steps up the pagoda. - OCADU
Signing postcard for @petri at book launch for Open Innovation Learning. Open access book is free at openinnovationlearning.com , so the traditional momento from an author book signing is modified for the 21st century. A physical book can be published on demand, but it's better to save some trees! (Photo courtesy of Noah Ing). - Storefront art
Lovebot concrete robot statues by Matthew Del Degan inside the sales centre for Riverside Square development, which will be on the south side of Queen Street, east of the Dion River. A winter stroll through our changing neighbourhood. (Toronto) 20150111 - St. Michaels Cemetery from 95 St. Clair Avenue West
Landlocked Catholic cemetery from 1854, near Deer Park. Gates from Yonge Street locked, land is visible from the north side via parking lot off 95 St. Clair West. West and south sides are bordered by residential homes, children and dogs playing in the southwest corner, behind sign that prohibits recreation. Should graves be forgotten by locking visitors out? (Toronto) 20110901 1848 - Cybernetics in Chicago
The Role of Multiple Levels by Timothy F.H. Allen @ASC_Cybernetics keynote speaker. Described systems sciences colleagues often as naive realists. Complexity is the way you look at a system. Funtowicz & Ravetz (1992) see quality in postmodern production as internal, within the process of doing science or creating art. Modern science is hostile to postmodernism. (American Society for Cybernetics, University Center, Chicago, Illinois) 20180816. - Godly Nanjing Road
Intersecting @doug_schuler to discuss pattern language research trajectories. He is at end of visit from Seattle, we are at beginning from Toronto. After vegan duck, fish belly, beef and crab meat, walked through People's Park marriage market umbrellas. (Godly Nanjing Road, Shanghai, PR China) 20180415
