Exhibition at Aalto Arts: The Flying Car, The Bubble, Desk, El Cello, all 2014 works. Creativity on display in industrial setting. - Transportation Services, City of Toronto
Playing @Doors_OpenTO with Litter Vacuum vehicle, parked outside the maintenance garages at one City of Toronto venue. Building wasn't open for touring. I worked in this office in the summer of 1979 as a business analyst, before the days of electronic spreadsheets. We moved into our home just down the street in 1988. (Transportation Services, City of Toronto, 433 Eastern Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20170527 - Tracks west from Commercial Drive
Downtown Vancouver in the distance, late on a rainy afternoon. North of East Broadway, south of Grandview Highway, rail is the faster way into the city centre. Coming on the Skytrain eastbound, it was a long way from the previous station, and the route turned south before continuing east (Vancouver) 20120309 1724 - Trace
Intense family drama @kJeffHo @FactoryToronto portrays 3 generations, one actor, two pianos in Trace. Great-grandmother, mother and son wrestle with conflict and duty, from wartime Canton to Hong Kong and Toronto immigration. Moments of humour in the personalities. The Cantonese-accented English takes me back a few decades, the mainlanders sound different now. (Trace, Factory Theatre, Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario) 2017114 - Toyama Park
Mountain biker hopping up steps in forested ravine between apartment buildings at dusk. On walk from Okubo district to Waseda University, got turned around on descent then ascent into green space. Large map signs every few city blocks combined with compass clarified navigation on confused mobile phone. (Toyama district, Tokyo, Japan) 20150305 - Toy Ping Ing (1909-2011)
- Town Square
Nativity scene in Central Park of Fairfield, Iowa, has space for extra characters. Non-American visitor freaked out by happy holiday music playing in the background. (Fairfield, Iowa) 20151128 - Tov-Li South
Regaining lost time since university years and the wedding decades ago, had a casual dinner together to catch up on lives. Recapping the movements and careers of children who are scattering around the continent. Took some scheduling and logistics to coordinate this event just three of us across this big city. (Tov-Li South, Bathurst Street, North York, Ontario) 20220524 - Tour Noire
Watchtower from the first walls of Brussels, constructed during early 13th century Roman times, which were outgrown so that by 1356 the second larger walls were built. The superfluous first walls were dismantled between the 16th and 18th centuries, except for the Tour Noire (Black Tower), which the mayor insisted was to be retained, and surrounded by shops. The tower was recognized as a listed landmark in Brussels by 1937. When the district around the Place Sainte-Catherine was targeted for redevelopment in the late 1990s, the Atelier d'Art Urban replaced the shops with a new hotel designed to accommodate the tower. The hotel became to be managed by Novotel. (Tour Noire, Brussels) 20150925 - Tortilleria Cuauhtemoc
Masa dough feeding into a press at small stall of #TortilleriaCuauhtemoc in back of our local #MercadoCuauhtemoc for fresh flatbread packaged to go, with salsas and guacamole on the side. From our apartment, we walk a few blocks for fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as sampling the centre aisle of open kitchens. The neighbourhood otherwise has convenience stores, but we haven't encountered any major chains, since we arrived. (Tortilleria Cuauhtemoc, Mercado Cuauhtemoc, Calle Rio Lerma, Mexico City) 20191219 - Torrential downpour at Regent Park
Should have checked the weather radar before going cycling. Rode to other side of Don River before rain started pouring down. Took refuge under big trees for five minutes until rain lightened. My preferred time for exercise coincides with after rush hour, so today's air may have been cleaner than usual. (Toronto) 20110815 1801 - Torpedo Factory Art Center
Mobiles of wooden geese flying in chaos, viewed from third floor hanging in stairwell down into second floor. The complex of working artists studios in a former munitions factory had great variety, for a cold rainy day on the west bank of the Potomac River. (Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria, Virginia) 20160320 - Toronto-Dominion Centre
During the heat warning, the shadow on #JoFafard (1985) The Pasture cools the seven bronze cows on the lawn. The installation was originally south of Wellingston Street, when I worked in that tower in the late 1980s. Looking between the TD North Tower and E&Y Tower in the Mies style, in the distance, are the Commerce Court South Tower by I.M. Pei and Scotia Plaza modern tower with parallelogram floorplan by WZMH Architects. (Toronto-Dominion Centre, Wellington Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20210706 - Toronto Sculpture Garden
An Te Liu (2015) Animal Vegetable (I) on top of Vegetable Mineral (I), part of six bronze castings in the Sold State installation. First installed with Nuit Blanche 2015 last fall. Waterfall on east wall cooling on a warm summer day. (Toronto Sculpture Garden, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20160711 - Toronto Reference Library
Second day @changepaths @Challengfactory @fernlebo #TheTalentRevolution book launched @torontolibrary, where the authors often met. Five drivers shaping a revolution the world of work: (i) demographics of longevity, with baby boomers; (ii) career ownership, shift in power between employees and employers; (iii) freelance economy, gig mobility; (iv) platform environments, B2B and B2C; (v) AI and robotics, in potential freed up in human impact. Employers have been slow to respond to the changes. (Toronto Reference Library, Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20190424
