- Nelson Mandela Walk
First day onsite as @RyersonU Chang School continuing education student, encountered construction in progress, east side of Jorgenson Hall towards Podium building. Picked up Onecard student identification and CESAR Handbook. This is the first higher education institution where I'm taking classes and haven't taught (at least yet). (Nelson Mandela Walk, Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario) 20190910 - The Digital Divide of Canadian Digital Governance
Systems Thinking Ontario, graduate student team (#3 of 5) from the master's program in Strategic Foresight and Innovation presenting a synthesis map developed for the Systemic Design courses. (OCADU, 100 McCaul Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20170621 - Tianzifang
Shikumen (stone warehouse gate) transformed into a warren of alleys with shops, food stalls and restaurants. Complex still has residents, at least one with the sense of humour for a pink panther in the window. Not in a shopping mood, the lanes were walkable on the afternoon before the weekend begins. (Tianzifan, Taikang Lu, Shanghai, PR China) 20190329 - Don Roadway
Mounds of earth, staging for a future Don Roadway Valley Wall Feature that will eliminate the risk of flooding to the east. South of Lakeshore Boulevard East, and the elevated Gardiner Extension, transformation of the Portlands continue. Snowfalls have abated, so the clear skies mean cold temperatures, still. (Don Roadway, Portlands, Toronto) 20210225 - Riverside neighbourhood
Touchup on hairline, since all of our sons have decided to self-barber. The chair and clippers were already in place, since I prefer to NOT cut my own hair in a mirror, and DY agreed to learn the tools for me. She's primarily the one who would have an opinion on my hair style. I'm just happy that my head is cooler. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20200412 - Gravenhurst
Hometown visit included meeting with chemistry teacher and student council advisor from 40 year ago. Town of Gravenhurst Baby Boomers Reunion for attendees of Gravenhurst Public School or Gravenhurst High School born between 1946 and 1964. (Gull Lake Rotary Park, Gravenhurst, Ontario) 20160716 - CH2M Alumni Centre
Workshop @ISSSMeeting @OSUAlumniCenter with @wardcunningham @michaelwmehaffy on Federated Wiki and Pattern Language. A few attendees claimed personal sites on wiki.openlearning.cc . From start.fed.wiki , readers got comfortable with cursor keys and moving around #FederatedWiki. Then, from mehaffy.fed.wiki.org , recent history on advancing #PatternLanguage. Loose agenda at http://isss2019.daviding.wiki.openlearning.cc/view/introduction-to-federated-wiki-and-pattern-language . (CH2M Hill Alumni Center, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon) 20190630 - PLoP-PUARL 2018
Hajo Neis starting PUARL conference, with coordinated chairs for PLoP (Kyle Brown) and Purplsoc (Richard Sickinger). (Portland Urban Architecture Research Lab conference, NW Couch Street, Portland, Oregon) 20181026 - Ashbridges Bay Skateboard Park
One of 14 skateboard parks open in Toronto, with city is still in Phase 1 reopening while most of province is in Phase 2. Clear, bright afternoon, although temperatures barely warm enough to wear shorts. On bike path, parents guiding children on small bicycles, while racers in spandex zoom by. (Ashbridges Bay Skateboard Park, Lake Shore Boulevard East, Toronto, Ontario) 20200616 - Former Seagram Museum
Friendly security guard escorted us to view decorative barrels now empty, historical architecture formerly housing CIGI 2003-2014. Door with Seagram crest says established 1857, predating this distillery building from 1878. The Centre for International Governance Innovation has moved to a modernist campus next door, and Shopify Plus moved in. I had been in some academic events in the great hall, it's now rows of desks with computers. (Former Seagram Museum, Erb Street, Waterloo, Ontario) 20180522 - CSI Annex
Holiday smackdown @csiTO with panel judging the best in a wide variety of cookie styles. Lively crowd, with volume of chatter rising to crescendo with the cocktail competition. Met other members coming from across the three CSI offices across the city. (CSI Annex, Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20181213 - DI_20161013 092235 RSD5 OCADU DesignXSystemicDesign group3
- PLoP-PUARL 2018
World Cafe facilitated by Tree Bressen, of attendees from both the PUARL and PLoP conference. Three pattern language card decks provided, to spark creativity. Had conversations, then moved on to new tables twice. (Portland Urban Architecture Research Lab International Conference, NW Couch Street, Portland, Oregon) 20181026 - Jennifer Kateryna Koval's'kyj Park
Sunset view of Toronto skyline attracts photographers, couples, and friends who take selfies. Crowd lingering, I wonder what event will signal the visit is complete. Official park is a small patch of green, renamed in 1998 after a 6-year who posthumously received a citation for bravery, in trying to protect her grandmother from an attack from a schizophrenic father. (Jennifer Kateryna Koval's'kyj Park, Polson Street, Toronto Portlands, Ontario) 20201109 - PLoP 2017
Intro to Writers Workshop @rpg Richard P. Gabriel. Inspired by U. Iowa since 1936, style evolving. Originally group leader was like a traffic cop around discussion, more maturity now should have leader serving as a teacher, asking questions and giving clarity on process and content. In this first session learning by showing, inner circle discussing the paper, with outer circle of observers. (PLoP Pattern Languages of Programs, colocated with ACM SPLASH, Hyatt Regency Vancouver, BC) 20171023
