- Sugar Beach umbrellas and sailboats in Toronto Harbour
At 23 degrees C, a perfect August day to be at Sugar Beach under an umbrella, or on the water in a sailboat on Toronto Harbour. Appreciating comfortable climate after having spent practically all of July in humid temperatures over 30 degrees in China, Vietnam and then Jamaica. Better planning would let me stay home in the summer, and travel to other parts of the world when I'll appreciate their climate more. (Toronto) 20130807 1823 - Sugar Beach
City dwellers lounging on chairs facing southwest towards Toronto Harbour in late afternoon, enjoying the sunset. It's still spring in Toronto, so high fluctuations of temperatures meant bright sun, but I was biking around with scarf and mitts. Saw some die-hard runners in shorts with bare legs at 10 degrees C. (Sugar Beach, Dockside Drive, Toronto, Ontario) 20230427 - Sugar Beach
Ride by DY along Waterfront Trail from Portlands to HTO Park and back was the first time in many years. Canada Day weekend a less than ideal time on the bike paths, as so many pedestrians obliviously inattentive. - Stubbs Bar-B-Q, Austin, TX
Young Tongue, opening act on a quiet Wednesday night in the Red River district, north of 6th Street. We arrived in Austin a few hours ago, having been waylaid by a missed connection. (Austin, Texas) 20141303 - Strépy-Thieu Boat Lift
The 73-metre difference between the Meuse and Scheldt rivers led to the world's tallest lift in 2002, before the Three Gorges Dam was built at twice the height. We also saw one of the four heritage Boat Lifts on the Canal du Centre, at Thieu from 1917, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. A boat lift has a chamber containing water than is elevated up or down, as compared to a canal lock where the water level rises and falls. (Ascenseur funiculaire de Strépy-Thieu , Thieu, Belgium) 20211111 - Strathcona
Walked from front of building to the east side, to appreciate the multi-level unit that was home to a family of 9. Decades later, everyone has now moved out of the neighbourhood, most with families of their own. Recalling the places called home, within a few blocks of each other, and the distances walking to school. (718 Campbell Avenue, Vancouver, BC) 20201020 - Stratford upon Avon canal basin
Tour boats moored on a late Monday afternoon, as Stratford upon Avon visitors reorient towards the RSC theatre just beyond. Scenic route towards Heathrow for flight home tomorrow. - Strada Lane
Tracks originally leading to Toronto Container Port are covered over by pavement, southbound curving to the west. On the other side of the fence is a yard of aggregate, amongst many other piles of earth and gravel around the Port Lands. Turning basin to the west, Tommy Thompson Park to the south, Leslie Street Allotment Gardens to the east. (Strada Lane, Port Lands, Toronto, Ontario) 20200407 - Storefront art
Lovebot concrete robot statues by Matthew Del Degan inside the sales centre for Riverside Square development, which will be on the south side of Queen Street, east of the Dion River. A winter stroll through our changing neighbourhood. (Toronto) 20150111 - Stone Distillery equipment from 1863
Historic alcohol production facility, Badger Distillation Control Panel beside a Distilling Column now with stairs wrapped around it. Factory converted to offices. (Distillery District, Toronto) 20140606 - Stone bench at The Waterfront School
Quiet late afternoon by Harbourfront, classes will still be on for a few weeks. CN Tower and Canada Malting silos in background (Toronto) - Stockel
Steamboat hotpot with angler monkfish, squid, beef, pork, mushrooms, cabbage. Long chopsticks for cooking, regular chopsticks for dining. Leisurely Sunday night dinner, resulting soup with rice noodles is warming for the coming winter. Broth was brought to boil in the morning, then simmered in the thermal (vacuum) cooker while were out of the house, making dinner service after sunset easy. (Stockel, Woluwe Saint Pierre, Brussels Capital Region, Belgium) 20161127 - Stewart Building
Learning text processing @RLadiesGlobal @ellamkaye visiting Toronto. #Rstats extended with RVerbalExpressions, TidyText and Wordcloud packages, as alternative approach to tools taught in the Digital Humanities course at EdX Harvard. Post-presentation dialogue expansion to the Tidyverse style, taken offline in deeper exploration of features from other programming languages. (R-Ladies Toronto, Stewart Building, College Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20191005 - Steam Hellsinki
Invited by students for after-class visit to bar by central bus station. Interior decorated in steampunk style, we moved chairs together for conversation, waitress says crowd arrives at 8 pm. Can't recall if I've ever been in a Finnish bar in 12 years. (Steam Hellsinki, Kamppi, Helsinki) 20160212
