- Wolfson College
Lecture by @ireneclng on "Creating New Markets in the Digital Economy. Contents included updates of 2013 book, plus "Payment is applause: markets and business models past, present and future" given at Wolfson@50 anniversary lecture on the previous date. (Wolfson College, Cambridge, England) 20151119 - Withrow Park evening softball
Rode bike past Withrow Park, where a friendly game of softball was being played on a cool summer evening. On the way uphill to deliver foo jook soup to a friend. (Toronto) 20110810 1950 - Windsor Parks Lakes
Pavilion at east end of man-made lake in gated subdivision at the western periphery of Houston. Cool, cloudy day, but warm enough to be bicycling along winding roads around two storey houses. (Houston, Texas) 20141206 - Wilson Rail Yard
Looking west into developing Keating Channel Precinct, with a sliver of land between the Don River shunted towards the city centre to the south, and the GO Transit Don Yard to the north. Metrolinx has plans for adding 5 new tracks and reconfiguring 3 tracks, to accommodate train movements for future Regional Express Rail. Land has been owned by the Toronto Port Authority for a long while, infrastructure takes time. (Wilson Rail Yard, Lakeshore Boulevard East, Toronto, Ontario) 20200401 - Wilson Heights
Convened for relaxed dinner with friends since undergraduate university days, schedule months ahead on busy calendars. Catching up on careers and family changes since our last dinner together, 4 years ago, before the Covid shutdown. Creative dodging of dietary constraints with cedar-planked salmon, broccolini, Portuguese pastry, mochi, non-dairy ice cream, and the first Sauvignon Blanc wine i've tasted in many years. (Wilson Heights, North York, Ontario) 20230826 - Willowdale
Browsing new family generations photo book, routed from Houston to Los Angeles to Toronto. Quiet summer day with Canada Day observance, since July 1 fell on a Sunday. (Willowdale, North York, Ontario) 20180702 - Willison Square
Midweek evening in Spadina Chinatown, restaurants are open for business but few pedestrians. Weekly family dinner out for a change, checks at the door for double vaccination and identification. Noticed lighted art installations on the drive home, we would be more conscious tourists if this wasn't our home town. (Willison Square, Spadina Chinatown, Toronto, Ontario) 20211020 - Willcocks Street
Temperature swing up over 10 degrees C in mid February a new record for Toronto. Wore sunglasses on bike ride to U. Toronto and Chinatown. Campus may be quieter than usual, at start of reading week. (Willcocks Street, University of Toronto) 20160218 - Why join the navy when you can be a pirate
Enthusiastic students, after Friday course completion, picked a bar with name quoted from Steve Jobs. Actually, it's a cafe that serves alcoholic drinks, mixed juices and smoothies. At 5 p.m., some of the clientele still had laptop computers open, and were tapping away as the sound levels rose. (Why join the navy when you can be a pirate, Annankatu, Helsinki, Finland) 20160219 - Whitney Museum of American Art
Fifth floor deck #DavidSmith (1961) Lectern Sentinel sculpture made of stainless steel, background southeast into Meatpacking District. Family plus friend walked through Lower East Side, Mott Street and Little Italy, and then discovered Columbus Park with Sun Yat Sen memorial. Called car service as we realized our time visiting museum would be limited by 6pm close. (Whitney Museum of American Art, Gansevoort Street, New York, NY) 20220904 - White suits on parliament steps
Saturday night in Helsinki, this group isn't the only one dressed up for night out. Black is more popular for women with long eyelashes. - White Spot Richmond Centre
Visitors flying into YVR for a midweek visit were hosted for lunch by two working professionals sneaking out on work. We've reached that age where debriefings on family health status has to be cleared before substantive conversation ensues. Venue chosen for proximity to the Skytrain terminus station, with easy access for us to continue to the West End. (White Spot Richmond Centre, No. 3 Road, Richmond, BC) 20230620 - When was that building demolished? Front Street East at Church Street (Toronto) 20110428 1815
Building demolished at one of the oldest intersections in Toronto. Front Street at Church Street would have been near the waterfront of the town of York, before landfill moved the shoreline blocks south - Westin Harbour Castle
Open source culture @RedHat says @realmikecardy includes (i) collaboration; (ii) transparency (both access and the ability to act); (iii) shared problems are solved faster; and (iv) working together creates standardization. Red Hat Day on Microservices, Containers, APIs and Integration extends long tradition towards open organizations, consistent with my research on http://openinnovationlearning.com/ (Westin Harbour Castle, Queen's Quay, Toronto, Ontario) 20190411 - Westbrook Village
Honoured to receive an inscribed (2022) translation of Zhuangzi at lunch with Richard John Lynn + Sonja Arntzen, both professors emerita now residing near UBC. After 19 years of retirement, academic leisure means research continues for only 6 hours per day. We exchanged life stories on how early university studies don't present linear career paths. (Neptune Chinese Kitchen, Westbrook Village, Vancouver, BC) 20240330
