From Frank Whittle at south to Alan Turing at north, buildings connected to encourage random interactions between researchers walking and thinking. Design of campus with buildings below 4 stores an antithesis of skyscraper thinking. Statue of Turing on plaza a little further north may be overearnest recognition, as he was never part of this university, and would only come home to Guildford on weekends while a teenager at boarding school. (University of Surrey, Stag Hill campus, Guildford, UK) 20150707 - Jz Club
Thomas Stabenow presents Li Xiaochuan, world touring famous bassist lending legitimacy to local trumpeter. Went to wrong venue in the Former French Concession, had to take taxi to meet SN late. View north from midtown on a clear winter day, beyond Deer Park to the west and Mount Pleasant Cemetery to the east. Beyond the Beltline Trail bridge, urban density increases with concrete towers. (Yonge Street, north of St. Clair Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20171220 - EditDX
Good design @alicerawsthorn @EditDX has usefulness, beauty and integrity in light of sustainable development goals (unlike 1969 Olivetti Valentina typewriter in museums). Design is an agent of change that can help us to make sense of what is happening, and to turn it to our advantage ... if society allows it to do so. Digest at ingbrief.wordpress.com/2017/10/08/20171008-1310-alice-raw... (EditDX, 21 Don Roadway, East Harbour, Toronto, Ontario) 20171008 - Kellogg School Global Hub
TGIF at 35th Reunion of the Class of 1982, on the second floor terrace around the atrium in the just-opened building. The more senior year reunions met upstairs, and recent graduates met on the ground floor. Former classmates attended some of the 4 lectures offering during the day, saying they don't remember sitting to listen so long. (Kellogg School of Management Global Hub, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois) 20170505 - Queen Street Dental Centre
New tech in real-time 3-D dental scanning, assembling images captured from moving a wand around the mouth. Cracked molar yesterday, scheduled for new crown this morning. Resetting expectation that original teeth eventually wear down for elders. (Queen Street Dental Centre, Queen Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20230111 - College of Design and Innovation, Tongji U.
Ph.D. seminar @snousala on Quantitative Methods. What is the difference between data, information, and knowledge? Describing the context before diving into big data tools. (College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University, Shanghai, P R China) 20170405 - The Power Plant

Family table of 12, two set orders with lobster, duck, fish, chicken, plus sides of beef, squid, grouper. Mostly finished, with good size leftover containers to take home. Restaurant surprisingly quiet for a Saturday night, leisurely conversation. (Perfect Chinese Restaurant, Scarborough, Ontario) 20160402 - Jorenji Temple, Tokyo Daibutsu
Intercept with @motohasi at third largest cast bronze Great Buddha in Japan. Temple is on high ground amongst residential housing, in a northwest Tokyo industrial neighbourhood. He lives in the ward, and had never visited this temple. Multiple trains, local bus and then long walk with GPS misdirections are likely to discourage tourists from coming.
