Bimonthly meeting of family village society, with elders over 80 years old getting greater involvement by younger under 60. New members on the board of trustees, started definitional discussion on governance and membership. (Lowkong Society, Huron Street, Chinatown, Toronto, Ontario) 20170709 - Usual pickup, Pearson Terminal 1
Even Adam says that the pattern of arriving so Pearson Airport, and being picked up by family is getting to be familiar. (Toronto) - Pre-Fathers Day
Two sons still in town, so Saturday lunch uptown to meet with grandfather. Summer schedules are getting complicated, hard to find a day not already booked. Life is good, lots of changes on the domestic fronts. (Very Fair Seafood Cuisine, Millken Boulevard, Scarborough, Ontario) 20220618 - Highland Farms
Ontario grown Flemish Beauty pears on destination shopping, later in the season that I had expected. This heritage variety grows locally, not as popular as Barlett, Anjou or Bosc. Childhood memories of the tree by my grandparents' house on the southeast corner of Beverley Street and Cecil Street in the 1960s, gone by the 1980s. I'm appreciative of a smaller grocery store that supports local growers. (Highland Farms, Ellesmere Road, Scarborough, Ontario) 20171107 - Taddle Creek Park
Ilan Sandler (2009) "The Vessel", 4 kilometres (the length of Taddle Creek now buried under urban Toronto) of stainless steel rod bent into shape. Water flows into an underground cistern for reuse to irrigate the park. Installation was commemorated in June 2011, commissioned by the City of Toronto. (Taddle Creek Park, 40 Bedford Road, Toronto) 20150720 - 20120520 Pine Hills Cemetery
Annual visit of the Low Kong Society to the Ing monument at Pine Hills Cemetery. Usual offering of scotch and burning hell money. I wonder what beverage might be spilled for a non-drinker. (Scarborough, ON) 20120520 1342 - Snite Museum of Art
Tensegrity theme with @KennethSnelson (1982) Maquette for Mozart I in foreground, background #JosefAlberts (1960) Study for Homage to the Square (Compliant), (1961) Study for Homage to the Square (Slate and Sky), (1961) Study for Homage to the Square (Gutentag IV, 1961). Smaller contemporary art collection on the second floor of the museum, some galleries already closed for move to a new building. Short detour to U. Notre Dame on the drive westward to Iowa. (Snite Museum of Art, University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana) 20220707 - SFO Gate G91
Clare Rojas (2008) Blue Deer, oil and ink on wood, over a usual Air Canada Gate G91 . Flying San Fran to Toronto direct today, originally alongside DY on free ticket via Montreal. Delay to YUL of 25 minutes with a 53 minute connection including immigration would probably miss, so she's on a high probability standby direct, too. Her luggage is checked with me, so it's easy for her to just walk on. (San Francisco International Airport, International Terminal) 20170322 - Woodbine Beach
Mounds of earth signal that lagoon is man-made, and the beach is renewed each spring for warm weather recreation. Public park opened in the late 1970s was originally a marsh, with major dredging in the 1920s. (Woodbine Beach, Ashbridges Bay, Toronto, Ontario) 20170427 - Fairfield, Iowa
Traditional American Thanksgiving, at friend's house in Iowa. Started meal earlier, at noon, relaxed leisurely pace. (Fairfield, Iowa) 20151126 - Vesuvio Cafe
Need more practice on the art of wasting time and chilling. Walked around Chinatown and saw the Chinese Historical Society, now tired. Headed out into North Beach, so joining the Beat generation seemed natural. Ginger beer and green tea available. (Vesuvio Cafe, Columbus Avenue, North Beach, San Francisco, California) 20170319 - Metropolia U., Bulevardi campus
Lectured in Industrial Management master's program, collaborating on generative pattern language writing for an hour, after 90 minutes of lecture. Students are mostly working professionals with practical experience, so we jointly felt our way through using the format for service systems thinking. We've come a long way since the program was initiated in 2006. (Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Bulevardi, Helsinki, Finland) 20161202 - Cascon 2017
Presentation #cascon on Cognitive Blockchain @DonnaExplorer, IBM Fellow. Clear demonstrations of pilots on cross-border supply chain traceability, Kimberley Process Certification Scheme for diamonds, IBM Verifier scanner to validate sources, Walmart Food Safety provenance. Digest at ingbrief.wordpress.com/2017/11/07/2017-11-07-1015-donna-d... - Antwerp Chinatown gate
Day trip results in finding Chinatown gate in Antwerp, with Central Station just a little south beyond. Stone lions at the ends of block both north and south on Van Wesenbekestraat. At 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday night, surprised that the majority of restaurants are closed, as are Chinese supermarkets. Found a reasonably priced noodle shop that just opened a month ago, so super-clean with earnest service. Wending way back through through diamond district, all storefronts were closed up securiely for the evening. We arrived at station two minutes before return train to Brussels scheduled to leave, so no waiting time. (Chinatown and Central Train Station, Antwerp, Belgium) 20150924
