- Lower Don Trail
Bike path afternoon rush hour eastbound beside Lakeshore Blvd. E. and ramp up to East Gardiner Extension. Remarkable for stream of cyclists moving at a quick pace, in packs after crossing the traffic lights at Don Roadway. Paved path the result of demolished elevation in 2001. (Lower Don Trail, Lakeshore Boulevard East, Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto. Ontario) 20160913 - Fairfield, Iowa
Traditional American Thanksgiving, at friend's house in Iowa. Started meal earlier, at noon, relaxed leisurely pace. (Fairfield, Iowa) 20151126 - Peter Jones presenting at #RSD3
@redesign on Flourishing Business in Oslo, while @aupward in Cleveland. Living up to Relating Systems Thinking and Design title for symposium. - Dragon City Mall
View from Spadina and Dundas, after clan dinner. Rare occasion when everyone is together. Rainy day. (Dragon City Mall, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20170521 - Tate Modern
Louise Bourgeois 1989-93 "Cell (Eyes and Mirror)" and 2001 "Legs", on the 4th of 10 floors in the Switch Tower opened in summer 2016. Crossover level happens on the 4th floor over the Turbine Hall, Boiler House to the north. Circular stairs complement the elevators down to ground level. Big space, lots of room to show more art. (Switch Tower 4th floor, Tate Modern, Bankside, London, England) 20161206 - Salina, Iowa
Family dog watching out picture window onto rolling landscape of fields and roads in farm country. Temperature has swung from winter to summer within 3 days, rush to planting will be underway with forecasts for clear weather. (Salina, Iowa) 20160405 - Electronic music
Synthpop @AustraTalks @npsToronto @to2015 #panamania pumping bass feels like inside a club, yet the band started on the plaza before the sunset. Haven't heard so much sequencing live since my university days. Entertaining to watch for times when none of three keyboards had hands on keys. Even most drums were electronic. My greying hair was not representative of the audience. Austra is Ryan Wonsiak (keyboards), Maya Potestski (drums), Katie Stelmanis (vocals and keys), Dorian Wolf (bass and keys). (Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto) 20150812 - Trillium Park
Bridge over the lit ravine walls with Moccasin Identifiers, northbound at dusk from Ontario Place towards the Martin Goodman Trail and Lakeshore Boulevard. Biked south through the CNE grounds with barricades in progress for the Indy race in two weeks, then east by the marina. (Trillium Park, Ontario Place Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario) 20170705 - The Real Jerk
Family lunch relaxed on a weekday, with sister-in-law visiting with baby. She requested some food not Middle Eastern, as she's been living in Israel. Curried goat was popular amongst us, jerk pork was extra spicy, and the beef roti was more substantial than an appetizer to be shared by all of us. (The Real Jerk, Gerrard Street East at Carlaw Avenue, Toronto) 20160303 - Lowkong Society
Bimonthly meeting of family village society, with elders over 80 years old getting greater involvement by younger under 60. New members on the board of trustees, started definitional discussion on governance and membership. (Lowkong Society, Huron Street, Chinatown, Toronto, Ontario) 20170709 - SFO Gate G91
Clare Rojas (2008) Blue Deer, oil and ink on wood, over a usual Air Canada Gate G91 . Flying San Fran to Toronto direct today, originally alongside DY on free ticket via Montreal. Delay to YUL of 25 minutes with a 53 minute connection including immigration would probably miss, so she's on a high probability standby direct, too. Her luggage is checked with me, so it's easy for her to just walk on. (San Francisco International Airport, International Terminal) 20170322 - USF Kalmanovitz Hall
Context on Max Jacobson #puarl2016 paper on @EdRobertsCampus, saying architect recognised experts are the vision-impaired and wheelchair users of the facility. no pattern language for them. More important than beauty is the collective space welcoming interaction between parties in the facility. Jacobson was a coauthor with Christopher Alexander of 1977 A Pattern Language, then practicising architect with Murray Silverstein for 35 years. Had been teaching at USF as adjunct for past few years. (Kalmanovitz Hall, University of San Francisco, California) 20161030 - Farm north of Krakow
Train paused, horses not paying attention. Journey from Warsaw to Krakow shows lots of agriculture, and a few towns. Fighting key lag in compartment of 6 passengers - Antwerp Chinatown gate
Day trip results in finding Chinatown gate in Antwerp, with Central Station just a little south beyond. Stone lions at the ends of block both north and south on Van Wesenbekestraat. At 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday night, surprised that the majority of restaurants are closed, as are Chinese supermarkets. Found a reasonably priced noodle shop that just opened a month ago, so super-clean with earnest service. Wending way back through through diamond district, all storefronts were closed up securiely for the evening. We arrived at station two minutes before return train to Brussels scheduled to leave, so no waiting time. (Chinatown and Central Train Station, Antwerp, Belgium) 20150924 - Harbourfront Centre
As part of Taiwan Fest, the Holy Sheep exhibit encouraged visitors to take their photos as a celebration of the Year of the Sheep. The plastic white sheep (and one black sheep) last appeared at the Vancouver Art Gallery in February for Lunar New Year. (Harbourfront Centre, Toronto) 20150829
