- Sushi Style
After movie, indulged in late night sushi party tray. We were the only guests dining in, a steady stream of pickups and delivery people coming through the door. The assortment of fish was fresh and traditional, without fusion creativity that wouldn't be seen in Japan. We chose to not partake before the 3h01m film that tests bladder capacity. (Sushi Style, Dundas Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190504 - Sushi in Clawson Michigan
Adam ordered 50 piece party platter for three of us, just before kitchen closed. Noble Fish is reputed to be the best sushi around Detroit, and we agree it was great. There's a few tables and a sushi bar at the back of a Japanese grocery store, so a lot of clients prefer takeout. This is walking distance from Adam's place. (Noble Fish, 14 Mile Road, Clawson, Michigan) 20150724 - Sushi Bistro
Post-sushi lunch, 3 ex-Vancouver natives stepped out into a hot day, two had sun hats. We live relatively close to each other, just needed follow-through to pick a time and place. Checking in on news of family and friends. Food constraints were less restrictive than our last visit. (Sushi Bistro, Danforth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20190729 - Sushi Aboard
Last minute coordination for early dinner with nephew, when original plans to visit Vancouver Art Gallery were squashed by them changing their schedule to close on Tuesdays. Restaurant reduces human contact when ordering is done on the overhead tablet, and sushi is delivered from behind the wall via the little boat on the conveyor belt. Conversation graduaally eroded as the easterners who woke up at 5:30am ET were dealing with 7:30pm PT jet lag. (Sushi Aboard, Denman Street, Vancouver, BC) 20230620 - Sunset Beach
Bernar Venet (2007) 217.5 Arc x 13, unpainted Corten steel , installed in 2013 as part of Vancouver Biennale public art. In the background, ships moored in English Bay. (Sunset Beach, Vancouver, BC) 20171028 - Sungnyemun
Approached the north side of this Namdaemun (Gate of Exalted Ceremonies) as the south entry closest to the river. Built of stone and wood in 1398, the morning market was just inside. Strolled through Namdaemun Market and had gimbap rice wrapped in seaweed, nokdujeon mung bean pancakes, tteokbokki spicy rice cakes, standing in the alleys. (Sungnyemun, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea) 20230927 - Sunday morning on 16th Avenue Denver
Colorado 7:30 a.m. Mountain Time for a traveller from Eastern Time means search for breakfast finds sleepy main street. Last night had many pedestrians on 16th Avenue, but early morning has free bus running in front of closed storefronts (Denver) 20110619 0730 - Sunday morning dim sum
Routing back home, Adam and Ayaka hosted us for brunch at a Chinese restaurant nearby. The popular dim sum selections are available from the pushcarts, and we ordered rice noodles from the kitchen. Clientele was predominantly non-Asian, so some entertainment from first-time diners at the next table. I now have a little headache and a slight feeling of depression, so it's either the warm summer humidity, or the MSG level is higher than back home. (Golden Harvest, Warren, Michigan) 20150802 - Sunday dim sum
Wide variety of standard dishes all arrived on the first cart. Four people isn't quite enough to try everything. (East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, Alameda, California) 20151213 - Summer umbrellas on Gould Street west of Victoria Street into Yonge Street
Ryerson University taking over Gould Street for a pedestrian mall east of Yonge Street, one north of Dundas Street. A permanent change to the streetscape, or a temporary use during construction? - Summer at 10pm
Thousands hear @jannarden claim @allisoncornell playing with her favourite musician @npstoronto on stage at #panamania. Relaxing songs and good humour have audience enjoying the time together on a cool August evening. Big screen on main stage has fans across the pond spacing out the crowd. (Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto) 20150811 - Sumida River Ferry
View from top deck of boat from Odaiba to Asakusa, up Sumida River through old and new Tokyo. Walking to Asakusa from shore westward better than from trains northward, as temples just inside gates rather than after lots of retail shops for tourists. (Tokyo, Japan) 20140222 1607 - Sumac Creek Health Centre
Portrait in @BennyBing series @TheDanielsCorp Regent Park Rotating Gallery for March, on the walls by doctors' offices and treatment rooms. In regular office hours, are only the sick, injured, and medical professionals privileged to view the collection? Appreciating art as therapy in addition to other healing services. (Sumac Creek Health Centre, Regent Park Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario) 20130312 - Sumac Creek Health Centre
Paul Shields (2017) "Comfort" and "Reason" paintings featured in quiet corner of a neighbourhood facility of St. Michael's Hospital. Minor procedure with a way-overqualified surgeon as a followup to a family practice physical checkup a few weeks ago. In the Canadian medical system, an unexciting visit is welcomed. (Sumac Creek Medical Centre, St. Michael's Hospital, Regent Park Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario) 20180226 - Sugar Loaf Bakery
Pastries made on-premise available mid-morning, but breakfast sandwiches out, so friend had the last croissant warmed with ham and cheese. Good conversation in a quiet corner at the back, catching up on news missed over the last month. It seems as though I visit venues that are more distant, than the places just down the street. (Sugar Loaf Bakery, Queen Street East, Riverside district, Toronto, Ontario) 20170412
