- Mount Clemens
Relaxing over appetizers in back yard, before heading back inside for main course. Last time we visited, our eldest sons were still in preschool. A few hours of conversation only begin to catch up on reconnecting over 30 years. (Mount Clemens, Michigan) 20220715 - Pivotal Toronto
Minimum Viable Platform (not Product), says @caseywest @pivotal @cloudnativefdn road show, should put ensure on Viable, not on Minimum. Earlier cited Gartner projection that by 2020, 75% of application development of digital businesses will be built, not bought. Said Amazon declares releasing changes every 11 seconds, but thinks it could be every second. (Pivotal, Toronto Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20160520 - BOZAR
Installation in progress @BOZARbrussels Victor Horta Hall, wonderfully lit by skylights. Wandered in via BOZAR Architecture galleries, pleasant surprise with the richness of space given to the works. Belgian sense of humour in calling the Centre for Fine Arts Brussels as BOZAR, as Francophones will recognize the derivation from Palais des Beaux-Arts (with the Flemish name of Paleis voor Schone Kunsten not so easy to connect). Arrived in Brussels on overnight flight this morning, we're dragging ourselves around town, looking forward to an early bedtime. (BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts Brussels, Belgium) 20150923 - Grooveyard @torontojazzfest
Toddlers @shopsdonmills dance with happy feet as jazz musicians play pop and R&B repertoire. Slight personnel substitution due to double booking with other events around town? Maybe the kids will appreciate more sessions jazz when they get a little older. Grooveyard gets the audience to sing along, while their other personas would not have words. (Shoppes at Don Mills) 20150618 - Hazelton Stage
Moody @TorontoJazzFest @mtwstevens trio musicianship extended sometimes by programmed loops and electronic effects. Live performance with band members attentive to each other on original compositions. Noted that the guitarist bandleader chooses to play from stage right, not the center. (Toronto Jazz Festival, Hazelton Avenue Stage, Yorkville, Toronto, Ontario) 20170629 - Alvar Aalto puisto
Iconic Alvar Aalto signature building of former Helsinki U. of Technology under wraps in renovation for new Aalto U. Undergraduate Centre bringing together students in technology, business and arts and design studies. Metro station across the street scheduled to start operation in fall 2016 as part of first phase of Lansimetro. On campus to visit my Ph.D. supervisor to check in on progress. (Alvar Aalto puisto, Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland) 20150907 - Bicycle-powered music
Music by @Mirian_Kay and @petitsnouveaux amplified by cyclist on @TuneYourRide for @RiversideBIA Beats & Eats StreetFest. Sunny Saturday afternoon, relaxed pedestrians discovering short intersections off Queen Street East. (Munro Street, Toronto) 20150606 - The Power Plant
Ydessa Hendeles (2016) Blue Beard, in the Fleck Clerestory, viewed from the second floor. Heroine is the victor in a power struggle in a short marriage, from which she escapes. Normally bright venue is totally shrouded with curtains for the exhibition of "The Milliner's Daughter". (The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Harbourfront, Toronto, Ontario) 20170720 - Suzhou River
Sichuan Road northbound on bridge over the Suzhou River, just west of the junction flowing into the Huangpu River, and the more famous embankment of the Bund. Staying at more modest hotel for 2 days while working off jet lag, before decamping to another branch of the same chain near the Siping campus. (Sichuan Road over the Sichuan River, Shanghai, PR China) 20171118 - Pigeon Point Light Station
Day trip, no wedding, no funeral. (Pigeon Point Light Station, Pescadero, California) 20170321 - Yonge Street at Yorkville Avenue
Facades of heritage 1870s-1890s Yonge Street buildings (John Oram, #836; Moses Staunton, #838-844; James Weir, #846-848A; Charles Frogley, #850) are being preserved as incorporated into a luxury 58-storey glass and steel tower at 1 Yorkville under construction. The storefronts are empty. In the lot behind, there's a big pit with construction machines digging. Neighbourhood was quiet on a Saturday when festivals were drawing crowds elsewhere. (1 Yorkville Avenue at Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20160611 - Lalibela
Had turkey a few weekends ago, so Thanksgiving of Ethiopian cuisine an unusual choice as dairy-free, and the teff in injera is gluten-free. Combined with AKY's birthday falling on same day, another way to celebrate as a family. Front window still open with fall relatively warm. (Lalibela, Danforth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20171009 - Denver Union Station
Routing back from Boulder bus to A Line train for hotel nearer to Denver Airport. Dragging luggage, not much time to see the city. Tired from conference with full agenda. (Denver Union Station, Colorado) 20160729 - Market Street
Shaded patio table on pedestrian mall was the venue for the Systems Changes Learning Circle core members. First occasion for a face-to-face meeting, after over 2 years online due to pandemic. With rhythmic shifts having become central to our approach, we reminded ourselves that some emerging subgroups may similarly experience years of disordered thinking before reaching a convergence. (Market Street, St. Lawrence Market, Old Town, Toronto, Ontario) 20220630 - Sony Building, Ginza
Last days before Sony closes building, and creates a temporary Ginza Sony Park. Multi-level floors spiralling up are mostly vacant, with visitors encouraged to post leaf-shaped stickers on top of wall drawings. Architectural heritage of 1966 concrete brutalist style will be lost, with even denser structures in one of the world's most urban neighbourhoods. (Sony Building, Ginza, Tokyo, Japan) 20170327
