- Regis College
Agenda @RegisCollege film series, led by Monty Williams, S.J., departs from previous sessions. Spiritual conversation isn't discussion about the movie, it's about the ways each individual is touched by the work, and then observing the responses from others in a small group. The 2016 documentary of -Fire at Sea" tells a story of villagers in Lampedusa, the southernmost island of Sicily, closest landfall for migrants crossing the sea from Tunisia. (Regis College, Wellesley Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20180926 - Regional cuisine in Iowa
Enjoying lunch just off town square, at a classic locale in small town Iowa. Seated at the round table, as depicted in the painting on the wall: a group of locals that used to meet everyday for breakfast, and then again for lunch. Restaurant had been in operation done the 1960s, now on third owner. The walleye serving was mammoth, a great order of fish with battered fries. (Frontier Family Restaurant, Washington, Iowa) 20150727 - Regent Park Athletic Grounds
Semi-spontanous organization in a field large enough for at least three soccer games. Occasional runner around the outer track, then a couple putting down small orange cones to mark space at the sound end of the field. Dusk arriving within the hour, neighbourhood residents get a little exercise before it's totally dark. (Regent Park Athlectic Grounds, Shuter Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20211012 - Regency Resto
Indian buffet to celebrate AKY's offer of admission to UToronto Ph.D. program, not Chinese New Year dinner. Also on waitlist for another department, and waiting for responses from other universities, funding may be negotiable. (Regency Restaurant, Little India, Gerrard Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20180216 - Refineries on the St. Clair River
Driving Gratiot Blvd in Port Huron on U.S. side of river, sign said scenic turnout. Small parking lot had view of industry on Sarnia waterfront, less than flattering impression of Canada. Short distance across water suggests proximity for smuggling, but expect that area is patrolled, and currents would make swimming treacherous. (Port Huron, Michigan) 20150430 - Rees Street Waterfront
Massive stone inukshuk, Muskoka Chairs and picnic table facing Inner Harbour, with sailboats in the distance. Grassy knoll just beyond the Harbourfront canoe rentals, if you don't own your own watercraft. Toronto Police Marine docks just to the east, HTO Park just to the west. (Rees Street Waterfront, Harbourfront, Toronto, Ontario) 20170622 - Red eggs for 100-day birthday party
Traditional Chinese symbol and celebration that baby will live. Our sons had one-month haircut parties, a little longer gives new mom an opportunity to catch up more on sleep. Ten course meal followed. (Markham) 20111119 2003 - Red bean soup
A better alternative to a birthday cake made with dairy products that I couldn't eat, sweet soup for dessert at the end of a family Chinese meal. (Perfect Chinese Restaurant, Scarborough, Ontario) 20141224 - ReBOOT
Donating old monitor for computer recycling, reducing clutter in the house. I have been the passenger-navigator, son #1 is the driver. In high school days, he volunteered at reBOOT, before they relocated, twice. (reBOOT Canada, Evergreen Brickworks, Toronto, Ontario) 20171228 - Real cattails, bronze birds
Ontario Travel Centre at Sarnia is a convenient rest stop before crossing into Port Huron. American border guard confiscated Canadian grape tomatoes - Reading 1967 "Pattern Manual" by Christopher Alexander et al. The 21 page manual is preceded by a 6 page description of the incorporation of the Center for Environmental Structure, of which the first 2 pages and title page missing in the Wurster Library
Historic document at the beginning of the pattern language movement is available on the open shelves of the library of the University of California at Berkeley. Significant artifact at a durable institution. - Ray Ison, Friday plenary
ISSS 2016 Boulder plenary - Ray Ison, Friday plenary
ISSS 2016 Boulder plenary - Ravintola Mezopotamya
Knitting together parallel histories on systems thinking and university research projects. Careers and social ties had intersected many times, but the women had never met. Bonding proved strong when comparing photos on mobile phones of cats. Language switched to Finnish when I left the table, and back to English when I rejoined. Casual Kurdish buffet cafe was a quiet place for 3 hour conversation on a weekday evening. (Cafe Caisa / Ravintola Mezopotamya, Kaisaniemi, Helsinki) 20160216 - Ravintola Jing Cheng
Chinese cuisine executed well, but recipe lacking in green vegetables may be preferred by Nordic clientele. Venue convenient to the apartment where I'm staying, but local foods and cooking by my own hands are superior. Met with once-removed acquaintance, exchange perspectives on dual careers in academia and commercial practice. (Kiinalainen Ravintola Jing Cheng, Töölö, Helsinki, Finland) 20160211
