- Thanksgiving dinner
Opening home to extended family and friends, for a non-turkey menu. Main course of Chinese beef stew, plus vegan mushrooms with beancurd sticks (foo jook), gai lan (broccoli), fuzzy melon (dit gwa) soup, beet-carrot salad. Vegan pumpkin pie and coconut milk ice cream to accommodate dietary restrictions. Of all attendees, I was the one who liked turkey most, before I gave up meat. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20181007 - Edward Gardens
Willet Creek flows south into the Don River West, after the bridges over the lower walks of the park. Absences of one son in California and another on an airplane is okay, they know the course well. (Edward Gardens, Lawrence Avenue East, Don Mills, Ontario) 20180824 - Balmoral Park
Leisurely dinner at home of friends since UToronto B.Comm. days. Agreed that we've lived through some good decades, as the world has gotten tougher for later generations. Options of 2000 Bordeaux and Iranian cuisine worth falling off strict diets as small indulgences. Early summer evening, with insects cooperating in the back yard. (Balmoral Park neighbourhood, North York, Ontario) 20180714 - Pine Hills Cemetery
Putting incense in front of monument, with offering laid out. Annual cemetery visit to remember clan members no longer with us, and ancestors in our lineage. (Pine Hills Cemetery, Birchmount Road, Scarborough, Ontario) 20180520 - Guanglan Road
Line 2 train from downtown eastbound requires transfer to 4-car train to complete journey to Pudong Airport. In afternoon rush hour, the smaller train filled quite rapidly, and I hopped on at the last minute while others seemed to prefer waiting for the next train with seats available. Not as glamourous as the Maglev express, but the local transfer requires only crossing a platform, rather than exiting through gates and re-entering. (Guanglan Road, Pudong, Shanghai, PR China) 20171129 - Lonsdale Quay
Rode Seabus to the north shore, climbed up four flights of stairs to a crow's nest by the Quay Market for a view southwest to Coal Harbour. We chose to wear fall coats, many locals seem to be in denial of the changing seasons, some still braving shorts. (Lonsdale Quay, North Vancouver, BC) 20171029 - EditDX
Innovation @ActuaCEO @EditDX with youth, build confidence with doing science; show role models in middle years; and then build skills. Need to invest in the innovation capacity of youth. Using technology is a small part of being digitally literate. (EditDX, 21 Don Roadway, East Harbour, Toronto, Ontario) 20170929 - Disrupting the Disruptors

Drop-off visa application only 20 minutes with appointment. Fewer customers than last year, almost all Asian faces. Turnaround in 3 days as non-express, maybe a post-Chinese New Year trough. Freezing rain outside, slid on sidewalk to bang left knee. (China Visa Application Service, University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20170207 - 887 Queen Street East
Building on corner wrapped up for deconstruction. Pharmacy moved east to another location a few months ago, in anticipation. Ground frost and snow could be a month away, so site could be ready for construction when temperatures warm up again. - Laneway between Booth Avenue and Logan Avenue, Queen Street East and Eastern Avenue
Thursday evening called @Bell_Support, Friday technician leaves note for @RogersHelps but doesn't tell me. Saturday afternoon found service report taped to wire. Can't people give more care about hazards in public thoroughfares? (Riverside, Toronto, Ontario) 20160903 - Bruce Milne
ISSS 2016 Boulder plenary - New Bilan
Somalian lunch with friendly chef. Short menu of 5 meat and fish choices, ordered one of each, enjoyed as a group: goat meat, chicken steak, chicken stew, king fish, beef stew. Chicken soup with spices had us guessing flavours. Five platters came with rice, we ordered chipatti bread extra, arriving hot to the the table. Casual restaurant not frequented by tourists slightly east of downtown, unconventional choice for Sunday lunch (New Bilan Restaurant, Dundas Street East, Toronto) 20160117 - DI_20150927 092504 AvGrandPrix salami olives
