- Water's Edge Promenade
Walked south on Sugar Beach arriving just in time to see #JudyChicago start A Tribute To Toronto @TorontoBiennial performance. Barge with flashing light released purple smoke first, drifting east. After 5 minutes, the wind shifted north, forboding us to retreat back to a grassy knoll minutes before the crowd majority turned to follow. (Water's Edge Promenade, East Bayfront, Toronto, Ontario) 20220604 - Embarcadero West
Walking west on Clay Street towards Jack London Square, blocked by a long, slow-moving freight train. Discovered the elevator up to a 4th floor pedestrian overpass, crossing over to the waterfront. The history of Oakland as a transit hub accepts open rail crossings that other urban centres might not. (Embarcadero West, Jack London Square, Oakland, California) 20220428 - Korea House
Intercept @antlerboy @pnahar1970 @redesign @allennaleonard SCiO UK meets Systems Thinking Ontario meets National Institute of Design India, post #systemschange Wasan Island meeting. Triangulating on experiences having individually met prominent figures in the systems thinking community, comparing observations to confirm findings. Server first said they don't see tea in the summer, and then brought the Englishman his own pot. (Korea House, Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20180621 - Well stocked Chinese mart
Over lunch in Nottingham, Martin asked what fermented black beans look like. Around the corner, the store has them both in small plastic bags, and cylindrical paper cartons. No need for the jars with pre-made sauce. A signal of cultural diversity in a university town. - Jasper by John Clement in Vancouver
Loops of tubular steel, orange paint stands out on a cloudy March Vancouver midday. Part of the Vancouver Biennale 2009-2011 temporary public art exhibition. Titled Jasper, by John Clement, web site at Firehouse Studio. Corner of Robson Street and Jervis Street (Vancouver) 20120326 1436 - Little Tibet
After art show opening, late night dinner in Tibetan restaurant in Parkdale. Momos and okra vegetarian, other dishes with meat spicy. Casual venue after driving through surprisingly heavy traffic on a Thursday night, the rush-hour journey from Riverside to Liberty Village having taken over an hour. (Little Tibet, Queen Street West, Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario) 20180830 - European Meat leaving Kensington Market
Neighbourhood institution of 53 years, will close business on April 7 in favour of Etobicoke store. I have shopped there since the 1970s, most recently bicycling cross town for quality foods. I'll have to start looking elsewhere. (Toronto) 20120317 1641 www.thestar.com/news/article/1136612--kensington-market-b... - Woodbine Park
Cloudy @BeachesJazz @LailaBiali @Larnell_Lewis @RossMacIntyre William Sperandei show mixing jazz and reinterpreted pop music, with Canadian references. Break from morning rain left muddy field, sun is losing against grey. (Beaches Jazz Festival, Woodbine Park, Toronto, Ontario) 20180722 - Cafe Stritch
Timed jambalaya @CafeStritch for Eulipions Jazz Jam, @timlinmusic calling the tunes. House band plays 7pm set on Sunday, so no impact on sleep schedule or work. Visit to California is for business, but there's always time to squeeze in pleasure, with a little planning. (Cafe Stritch, South First Street, San Jose, California) 20170312 - IAH Terminal C, security check
At Bush Airport, TSA Pre does not even provide bins, as laptops stay in luggage. Somehow discomforted by convenience, as I know that laptop on top of tablet should be impenetrable to x-rays. AHI and me to C gate for Chicago, him in slow lane through security. NPI was on different bus to B gate for commuter plane to Columbus. (Houston, Texas) 20141207 - SandsExpo breakfast
Feeding 8500 #ibmimpact attendees for breakfast in Las Vegas presents an industrial scale challenge. There's disglamour in the Sands Expo self-service buffet and tables on the concrete floor. The style follows fast food protocols, unlike lunches served in ballrooms with carpets, and dinners hosted in onsite hotel restaurants. Maybe late Vegas evenings encourage rudimentary service early in the day. (Las Vegas, NV) 20120430 0759 - 72 Perth Avenue
Wooden balls almost hidden at base of #AndreaCarlson (2022) Never-Ending Monument of 28 columns @TorontoBiennial . Sculpture related to Man Mound ancient earthework in Wisconsin, that bridges supernatural and natural worlds, and life and death. Progressive visits to contemporary art on Friday morning, sites are across town from home. (72 Perth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20220408 - Congee Queen
Family lunch with all of our sons out of town. Only two dishes, yet no leftovers from beef brisket chow mein, and braised fish hotpot. Continued conversation at aunt's house, after brief stop to pick up from Chinese bakery. (Congee Queen, Agincourt Mall, Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario) 20161224 - SFO F gates
I wasn't going to Hawaii, but one gate over were musicians, hula dancers and agents offering macadamia nuts. On the short flight SFO to LAX, the aircraft doesn't even have entertainment screens in the seatbacks. First leg towards home, to meet my sister for a handoff of my father for the return to Toronto. (F gates, San Francisco International Airport, California) 20220502 - Pine Hills Cemetery
Lighting hell money and incense on visiting mom's gravesite, adjacent to the annual Lowkong clan convening at the monument. Dad had visited earlier on the anniversary, by himself. Only 3 of us in Toronto this weekend, we all continued on to Mount Pleasant to see both grandparents, afterwards. (Pine Hills Cemetery, Scarborough, Ontario) 20160522
