- Peoria Riverfront Museum
Seward Johnson (2014) "Return Visit" 31-foot painted bronze dwarfs spouse referring to her own book. A contemporary common man receives the 1854 Gettysburg Address delivered by Abraham Lincoln in Peoria in 1854, relevant still today. We only had a short visit around the grounds, and the Caterpillar Visitor Center next door, en route from Indianapolis IN to Fairfield IA, not enough time to see the exhibits inside. (Peoria Riverfront Museum, Washington Street, Peoria, Illinois) 20180809 - Don River Park
Beyond construction fences, the urban marsh, playhill and pavilion would seem to be mostly completed in the new Don River Park. Rerouting of Bayview Avenue connecting to River Street is still underway and residential housing is still skeleton, so children jumping the gates are a low probability. (Toronto) 20120609 1458 - Dundas Square fountains
Dancing fountains at plaza on a sunny fall afternoon when no formal events have been scheduled. Tourists stop to have their photos taken. Busker hawks his skills to draw a crowd. A chance for bicycling without coat, forecast is rain over next few days. 20110922 1826 - Ravintola Mezopotamya
Knitting together parallel histories on systems thinking and university research projects. Careers and social ties had intersected many times, but the women had never met. Bonding proved strong when comparing photos on mobile phones of cats. Language switched to Finnish when I left the table, and back to English when I rejoined. Casual Kurdish buffet cafe was a quiet place for 3 hour conversation on a weekday evening. (Cafe Caisa / Ravintola Mezopotamya, Kaisaniemi, Helsinki) 20160216 - Ice and drainspouts, Hameenlinna
Field work more as art than science, as @minlii emerges a theme in thawing temperatures. Curated as a collage on Facebook photos (Hameenlinna, Finland) 20120408 1340 - Guoquan Road
Selected fish, spinach and mushrooms for custom malatang, spicy Sichuan soup where the broth is like sauce, and drinking the bowl empty isn't a good idea. Walked north from hotel to next metro stop, an easy stroll but breathing harder through a N95 mask to counter an Air Quality Index of 149 unhealthy. Had a full day for research discussions, so much progress that can be done in person, reinforcing that video and audio conference still has lower bandwidth. (Yang Guo Fu, Guoquan Road, Shanghai, PR China) 20171121 - Arsenal Contemporary Art
Reflective fabric 40 metres long, stitched by @MataAhoCollective (2014) Kaokao #1, part of @TorontoBiennial. Pieced together by Maori artists, in a tukutuku chevron design used both as a military symbol and birthing maps. Size shown in relation to another visitor, innocently reading the description card for the work. (Arsenal Contempotary Gallery, Ernest Avenue, Junction Triangle, Toronto, Ontario) 20220507 - Degrassi Street Park
Playground spacenet not an attraction when there's winter snow everywhere. Observed children down the street playing on their front lawns, as parent cleared walks. Unusual walk for me from home to Chinatown East for groceries, too wet for bicycling, shopping list too small to justify driving. (Degrassi Street Park, South Riverdale, Toronto, Ontario). 20171223 - Leaside Park
A few children climbing on brightly coloured playground equipment at the end of a long, empty sports field. City park just northeast after crossing the Constitution Bridge over the Don River ravine, (Leaside Park, Millwood Road at Overlea Boulevard, East York, Ontario) 20170614 - Riverside neighbourhood
Arborists @TOtrees outside my window this morning, sawing at the linden tree in our front yard. Pruner in the articulated boom lift (cherry picker) with shears above, collector of branches on the ground, below. The sapling was owned by the city when we moved in so many decades ago, and has been professionally maintained mostly without our attention. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20220331 - Pearson Airport T1
Between Gates E77 and E78, colorful glass cylinders enclosing light bulbs, suspended from overhead arches. Design by Norr Architects for OTG, a company operating high-end restaurants at the airport, including Hemant Bhagwani’s Marathi Indian. (Terminal 1, Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Ontario) 20170401 - Mural on O'Keefe Lane
Colourful bridge joining Ed Mirvish Theatre entrance on Yonge Street and former Pantages Theatre on Victoria Street. Dumpsters not so scenic, steps south of Yonge-Dundas Square. - CSI 215
Housecooling party @csiTO @tonyasurman reminiscing over 14 years in this venue, vacating occupants to move 459 feet across the street to the purchased and renovated property at 192 next week. Asked members to bring the spirit of this place to the new building. Broke her train of thought abruptly, noticing the newborn cradled by father, foreseeing a next generation of social innovator. (Centre for Social Innovation, Robertson Building, 215 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20180914 - TUJazz
Professionals @TUJazzFest @Larnell_Lewis said @TaraKannangara would perform unrehearsed. Beside @robnchrisca in a smooth performance. Busy musicians lining up gig schedules. Years are flying by, as Don Grolnick's "Nothing Personal" (1987) by Michael Brecker has become a jazz standard. (Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival, Mel Lastman Square, North York, Ontario) 20180908 - DI_20150926 041758 WoluweSaintPierre official BY PO smiling
