ISSS 2016 Boulder plenary - John M. Kelly Library
Big splash of colour with @GinaRorai (2007) Are You There, painting 72" x 60" visible as soon as the door in the third floor stairway is flung open. The work of the Toronto-based artist probably gets scant attention by hundreds of students who pass by every day. The art is part of the Donovan Collection, the benefactor a professor at the university. (John M. Kelly Library, St. Michael's College, University of Toronto) 20221206 - Johnson Pier, Half Moon Bay
Noon is too late to buy fish right off the boat, but signs indicate that regulars must come to the harbor earlier for ultra freshness. (Johnson Pier, Half Moon Bay, California) 20170321 - Jollibee Heartland
First experience @JollibeeCanada, international cultural tourism to @Seafood_City Missisauga without leaving the country. Battered fried chicken was good, gravy an added feature! Palabok rice noodles with pork and shrimp a larger departure from western norms. Walking supermarket aisles, we recognize a few Filipino brands, but Chinese supermarkets typically don't have the variety or price points that expats might find familiar. (Jollibee, Heartland Town Centre, Boyer Boulevard, Mississauga, Ontario) 20210318 - Jonathan Ashbridge Park
Midday Sunday farmer's market @LeslieMarket, second last weekend for the fall. Discovered that the listing of "Ashbridge Park" meant 'Jonathan Ashbridge Park" off Queen St. E., not "Ashbridge Bay Park" off Lakeshore Blvd. E. Extra urban bicycling for exercise on a cool sunny day. (Jonathan Ashbridge Park, Queen Street East, Toronto) 20151025 - Jorenji Temple, Tokyo Daibutsu
Intercept with @motohasi at third largest cast bronze Great Buddha in Japan. Temple is on high ground amongst residential housing, in a northwest Tokyo industrial neighbourhood. He lives in the ward, and had never visited this temple. Multiple trains, local bus and then long walk with GPS misdirections are likely to discourage tourists from coming. (Jorenji Temple, Tokyo Daibutsu, Akatsuka neighbourhood, Itabashi ward, Tokyo, Japan) 20170327 - Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport
Sometimes hard to tell the difference between an airport terminal and a shopping mall. Relatively quick check in process, airport lounge is on pier D, AC flight is at end of pier E, a 10 minute walk. Focused time to get Systems Thinking Ontario announcement done before boarding plane. (Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Barcelona, Spain) 20221011 - Joshua Tewksbury

ISSS 2016 Boulder plenary - Julian Street Inn
Designed by Christopher Alexander in 1988 in the style of a country inn, a shelter for the homeless demonstrates the practical side of a Berkeley professors known as an architectural theorist. Down the street from San Jose Arena (now SAP Center) that was completed in 1993. (Julian Street Inn, San Jose, California) 20151209 - Julu Road
Private uses spilling over into public space, bed covers drying on clotheslines tied between trees on the boulevard of a city street. Even in an urban environment, the Chinese tend to take action first, and worry about consequences later. Sight is remarkable only to foreigners not yet fully immersed into local societal conventions. (Julu Road east of Shaanxi South Road, Former French Concession, Shanghai, PR China) 20190316 - Jumer's Casino
Rest stop at casino just west of the Mississippi, on our way eastbound from Iowa on I-280. Didn't want to show ID to enter, so don't know if there's more than slot machines. (Jumer's Casino, Rock Island, Illinois) 20160510 - Justina M. Barnicke Gallery
Hanging from the wall, #TimWhiten (2014) Hallelujah I is horizontal lilac branches with an umbrella handle suspended into vertical branches, gallery lighting casting shadows down. Part of the The Performance of Shadows exhbition, in the bridging of material and spiritual experiences. Not at this show is (2015) Hallelujah II that looks similar, with a glass cane instead of the umbrella handle. (Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, Hart House, University of Toronto) 20231125
