- 156 Booth Ave.
Across our street, two alarm fire at 3:30 a.m. called out 12 trucks and 45 firefighters. This morning, the exit out the front of our house was blocked as a crime scene. One neighbour has an exterior video camera capturing intruders on the scene in the night. Fire trucks are now gone, yellow police tape is around that property. Houses to the north and south both damaged. (156 Booth Avenue, Riverside district, Toronto, Ontario) 20170627 - Mountain Equipment Co-op
Discovered most bike lights @Mec_Toronto now changed to USB internal recharging. Selected MEC Quattro white LED light. Replacing old Planet Bike unit with dead bulbs, could have been at least 5 years old. Have to prepare for shorter days. (Mountain Equipment Co-op, King Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20160919 - Mak Deli
Bosnian meat burek, plus combo of cevapi grilled minced meat and sudjukice smoked veal sausage on lepinje flat bread, made to order. Casual cafe at back of eastern European market, given table service with knife, fork, napkin and water glasses. Food makes sense geographically, as Bosnia Herzegovina is south of Austria and Hungary (grilled meat) and north of Greece (bread deeper than pita). Service in a Canadian style. (Mak European Deli, Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario) 20160408 - Eglise Sainte Alix
Walked uphill towards a quiet neighbourhood square for provisions, as we're jet-lagged in suburban Brussels on the Sunday of a holiday weekend. Fruit stand, bakery and small grocery store offer the basics. Mother Alix Le Clerk (1576-1622) had a vision of education for for all girls, rich and poor, Catholic and Protestant, following the rules of St. Augustine. She was beatified by Pope Pius XII in 1947. (Église Sainte-Alix, Woluwe Saint-Pierre, Brussels, Belgium) 20211031 - Pigeon Point Light Station
Maybe a whale blowing offshore. Light station closed since 2001. (Pigeon Point Light Station, Pescadero, California) 20170321 - LHR T2 Concourse
Check-in concourse to Heathrow Terminal 2 is spacious, which means super-human scale from Piccadilly Underground through security. Air Canada gates still in Terminal 3, 15 minute walk further. - Used books for free
At Häme University of Applied Science, bookshelf had old technical manuals, a few research reports published by Finnish institutes. Nothing inspiring, a few familiar titles obsolete for the immersed. - Helsinki Airport T1
Train from city centre arrived at 12:49pm downstairs for 2:00pm departure. Star Alliance Gold check-in counter moved to far side of economy line, so slight stress to find right place. Worth maintaining frequent flyer status to speed through airport. Built up sweat dragging 2 checked bags plus carry-on through Helsinki snow. (Helsinki Airport, Vantaa, Finland) 20160220 - Niagara Falls from the Rainbow Bridge
On a summer Friday morning, the Rainbow Bridge border crossing was the quickest, not to mention most scenic, way into the U.S. DY driving, so passenger shot out window while moving - Pizzeria Via Mercanti
Massive blue-tiled wood-fired oven with pizza spatula follows traditional Italian methods in the branch located in Little India. Diningroom has lots of space at lunchtime, as a good place for a relaxed business discussion. On diets, we split a pizza and a salad. (Pizzeria Via Mercanti, Gerrard Street East, Little India, Toronto) 20170511 - Terminal 1 Christmas tree
December not yet cold, so holiday cue is a reminder of family times to come at end of month. Departing on flight to California, so thoughts of snowflakes even farther away. (Toronto Pearson Airport Terminal 1, U.S. gates, Toronto, Ontario) 20151208 - Robarts Library
Eleventh floor stacks, with triangular window bays protruding out facing Sussex Street. My alumnus card still gives me access to the stacks to old books, including one older than my attending university. Biked cross town, got caught in torrential downpour in the last five minutes, so entered the building dripping water. (Roberts Library 11th floor, University of Toronto, St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20160605. - 887 Queen Street East
Building on corner wrapped up for deconstruction. Pharmacy moved east to another location a few months ago, in anticipation. Ground frost and snow could be a month away, so site could be ready for construction when temperatures warm up again. (887 Queen Street East at Logan Avenue, Riverside, Toronto, Ontario) 20161115 - Liquid Art Mural
Mural signed by @kustaasaksi as part of #MolsonM_Art funding @Cdn_Art_Fdn installation on King St. E. parking lot. Painted van was added after mural was complated. Story described in Strategy magazine. (Toronto) 20120523 1846 - Opera Las Vegas Venetian
Encountered opera in St. Mark's Square of the Venetian Hotel, Carnevale di Venezia. Arrived in time to hear the singing of Arrivederci. Since I'm not a fan of opera, the last few minutes was enough. (Las Vegas, NV) 20120503 1421
