- Riverdale Cemetery, Parkway, Park
View eastward on warm late winter from Toronto Necropolis, overlooks Don Valley Parkway, and Riverdale Park East in the distance with apartment towards Danforth Avenue. Can see through the trees, but leaves will obscure the view in a few weeks (Toronto) 20120311 1714 - Riverdale Collegiate Institute
Dormant hallways momentarily spring to life with students changing classrooms in the link between #RiverdaleCollegiateInstitute wings, looking southward. Outside the front side of the building, the small number of socially-distanced masked students suggests staggered breaktimes. Playing fields and sport courts are closed due to pandemic, with playground equipment specifically reserved for toddlers in daycare. (Riverdale Collegiate Institute, Gerrard Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20201211 - Riverdale Farm
Lamb looking off into the woods, meditating, while the rest of the crowd is busy grazing. In the pen, the mature sheep are wearing thick coats, due for shearing. The farm is still closed for the pandemic shutdown, only a view visitors outside on a sunny morning. (Riverdale Farm, Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20210601 - Riverdale Farm
Since 1975, the old zoo has been domesticated, hence the flock of sheep now part of the urban park. Immediate vegetation is overgrazed, as animals are restricted to the pen. Many toddlers and preschoolers guided by elders, routes now clearly marked with arrows to reduce human collisions. (Riverdale Farm, Winchester Street, Cabbagetown, Toronto, Ontario) 20200914 - Riverdale Farm
One of three sheep in the pen, all in need of shearing. Hair wet from recent rainstorm, temperature rising to spring normals from the record low frost warnings the past evenings. Starting route northbound on Lower Don River Trail and found unpaved sections with big puddles. Opted to push the bike up one set of stairs, ride west downhill, and then push up again into the park. (Riverdale Farm, Winchester Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20200515 - Riverdale Park East
The young at heart enjoying the bright winter day, riding sleds west of Broadview Avenue, down into the Don Valley ravine. No manmade aids to return to the top, lots of parents pulling young children back uphill. Completely natural snow, unlike the Winter Olympics in progress a continent away. (Riverdale Park East, Broadview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20220205 - Riverdale Park pedestrian bridge
View south on lower Don River, at rush hour with traffic northbound practically stopped. Rode bike west on Lake Shore Boulevard, then north. Carried bike up many flights of stairs to pedestrian bridge from West Riverdale Park to East. Just a short loop around our neighbourhood, but the headwind was strong on the outbound. (Riverdale Park pedestrian bridge over the Don River, Toronto, Ontario) 20160607 - Riverdale Park West
Tree carved with owls on top, and raccoon inside, located just south of Riverdale Farm. In the open air, families together and friends socially distanced in clusters, despite the local attractions closed for pandemic lockdown mandated by the province. Horses visible in the pens at the periphery behind closed gates. (Riverdale Park West, Riverdale Park Road at Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20210116 - Riverdale Park West
Playing field lights on, but cool temperatures see only dogs off leash running across the grass. Early evening before Canada switches off daylight savings time, the sunset time will read differently tomorrow. (Riverdale Park West, Toronto, Ontario) 20161105 - Riverside
A single candle on a cake is sufficient. The family consumed third and then fourth servings of a wonderful homemade vegan banana cake, with frosting less sweet than commercial offerings. A little later, the house was quiet with everyone taking naps to recover from hectic work lives. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20190209 - Riverside
Party for da shou extended an extra day, as guests arrived one day late by mistake. Happy to open up a bottle of Valpolicella for a catch-up conversation, it's better that they drove on a clear day from Collingwood. Sons weren't so involved, one gone on a flight for a holiday in Utah. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20171230 - Riverside
Da shou celebration, man's 60th and woman's 61st birthday as a complete cycle around the Chinese calendar. Grateful to see many friends who we knew before our sons were born. We offered the peach longevity buns and red-dyed eggs, plus gift of rice bowl, chopsticks and spoon to take home. Unfortunately heavy snowfall led to a few last-minute regret calls, we'll have to follow up when the weather improves. (Riverside district, Toronto, Ontario) 20171229 - Riverside
Woke up to urban foresters trimming branches in front of our house. The linden tree is officially owned by the city. Pruning away from the tangle of electrical wires is a service funded by tax dollars. True fall temperatures this week, and dusk comes early. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20171012 - Riverside
Rare occasion with entire family in town, so Chinese beef stew plus last minute duck and BBQ pork. Unusual congregation in front of television to watch Star Trek Discovery premiere. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20170924 - Riverside
Jackfruit 20 lb. after Chinatown family dinner, with all sons at home. Their grandfather had never tried jackfruit before, it grows in Vietnam, not China. Boiling seeds, they are supposed to taste like potato. (Riverside district, Toronto, Ontario) 20170717
