- Systems science summit, Wisconsin
Closer to home than #ISSS2015 Berlin, Timothy FH Allen and David Ing, ex-presidents, met to exchange ideas. Small sandbox discussion, could have accommodated more guests for the barbeque. Diana enjoyed watching the horses out back. (Oregon, Wisconsin) 20150731 - 120 Bloor Street East
Martin Bunch at Systems Thinking Ontario presenting on Ecosystem Approaches to Health, with 3 case studies. Centre for Systems Studies

Almond milk + fruit @OmaChiropractic, blender 20 seconds on bike @RiversideBIA Fest. @CycleToronto kiosk next over if wheels go astray. Seat was a little high for short riders, so parents had to ride for kids. (Munro Street, Toronto) 20150606 - Leslieville
Mystery double fence with vines hid bitter melon. Garden inside had many dit gwa hairy melons over a foot long suspended overhead, pointed out to me by the Chinese lady of the house. Urban gardening alongside a busy city thoroughfare. Reminds me of the jungle that my grandmother use to grow behind the house in the 1980s. (Dundas Street East, Leslieville, Toronto, Ontario) 20160821 - Natrel Pond, Harbourfront
Congestion of canoes and paddleboats in 2 feet of water, on a busy Victoria Day at Harbourfront Centre. Walkways filled with people enjoying the weather, ships ready to tour the harbour. (Harbourfront Toronto) 20150518 - Yonge and Grenville Streets
Two storey storefronts demolished, foundations for @YCcondos 66 floor glass tower in progress. Intensification of downtown core, a few blocks north of Ryerson University and Yonge-Dundas Square. I don't remember this construction project starting, the warm weather means bicycling more frequently. (462 Yonge Street, Toronto) 20150509 - Market Street
Shaded patio table on pedestrian mall was the venue for the Systems Changes Learning Circle core members. First occasion for a face-to-face meeting, after over 2 years online due to pandemic. With rhythmic shifts having become central to our approach, we reminded ourselves that some emerging subgroups may similarly experience years of disordered thinking before reaching a convergence. (Market Street, St. Lawrence Market, Old Town, Toronto, Ontario) 20220630 - HoSu
From UK to Toronto @hubofallthings community with @jonathanholtby briefing @cognetfx . Update since meeting in London last December, there's been a lot of progress. Poke and sushi! (HoSu Bistro, Yonge Street, midtown Toronto, Ontario) 20170915 - Sky Dragon
Karaoke at Lowkong clan Spring Festival banquet, society elders showing how it's done. Invited friends to join us for the special occasion, as our family now has two sons living and working in remote locations. (Sky Dragon Restaurant, Spadina Chinatown, Toronto) 20160430 - Boulevard Anspach
On All Saints' Day, exited De Brouckère metro station and started walking south. Looking back northward, surprised to see so many people out enjoying the clear skies on a public holiday, with many large retailers open for commerce. Historically a street built covering the River Senne between 1868 and 1871, it was only in 2012 that the road was closed on Sundays from vehicular traffic, finally become car-free in 2015. Electric scooters seem popular, nimbly weaving around pedestrians. (Boulevard Anspach south of Rue Grétry, Brussels, Belgium) 20211101 - Public Lecture, Tongji U
Graduate students and public invited to "Wicked Problems, Affordances, Service Systems: Some perspectives for designing". Abstract: Recent research into the practices of designing includes reflection on ways in which the domains for designing and the role(s) of designers have changed. These inquiries echo some of the same questions that arose during the Design Methods Movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. This presentation focuses on exploring some perspectives associated with 21st century advances and challenges to designers: 1. Solution to a problem in context ~ Wicked problems 2. Functions in things ~ Affordances alongside interactions 3. Production systems ~ Service systems The types of projects, activities and technologies for the contemporary designer have changed. The practical and philosophical implications incorporating these perspectives will be discussed. Slides at coevolving.com/commons/20171124-wicked-problems-affordanc... Dairy Bar is a local institution since 1950. Sundaes and soft serve ice cream cones. Picnic table outside in the shade. Unfortunately no choices for people sensitive to milk. (Dairy Bar, Fairfield, Iowa) 20150730 - Lalibela
Ethiopian injera on platter with veggies, then grilled beef and lamb on top, and two deep fried fish on the side. No cutlery, this Mother's Day dinner was eaten with our fingers.
