Productivity challenge says #BrianWatson @ConestogaC with low GDP per capita growth and part time employment percentage increasing. High rate of youth unemployment in the midst of a national labour shortage. Compared a race of four individuals on a relay, compared with a systems approach of a rugby team responding to obstructions by passing the ball to win. (Systems Thinking TO, Loyalty One, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190425 - Disrupting the Disruptors
Workshop with Brian Iler, @CoopsCanada #platformcoop International Platforms and National Legal Frameworks, (Beeton Hall, Toronto Public Library) 20170910 - SystemsThinkingTO
Frustrations in law firms @KarenSkinner @DavidFSkinner @GimbalCanada leading to lean improvement. Exercise in drawing a pig, first try is free form, second try following a long page of text specifications, third try following a sketch. Instead of words, easier to follow a map or modify a standard template. Not everything needs to be a specialized art. (Systems Thinking TO, Loyalty One, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190225 - Pulqueria Las Dualista
Saw agave succulents earlier in National Palace, so finished the guided tour with a taste of the beverage. Venue was packed, we eventually got a ledge with pulque in natural flavour, then with passionfruit and with guava. Sons declared it as Mexican kombucha, but not worth finishing. We were advised that natural tastes best within a day of harvesting from the source, thereafter the low-alcohol drink is better with a sweetener. (Pulquería Las Duelistas, Colonia Centro, Mexico City) 20191221 - SFO Gate G94
Porcelain enamel on steel @squeakcarnwath (1999) Fly Flight Fugit. End of a good visit to the Bay Area, DY says that there are still many places to visit beyond the tourist places. (San Francisco International Airport, California). 20190708 - How Social Movements Spread
Systems Thinking Ontario, graduate student team (#2 of 5) from the master's program in Strategic Foresight and Innovation presenting a synthesis map developed for the Systemic Design courses. (OCADU, 100 McCaul Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20170621 - Louis Kesten Lane
Extreme cold alert in the laneway behind our house, with snow lingering on the ground from 3 days ago. Bundled up for a walk in the fresh air, but not for very long. Optimistically, the forecast for a week from now could be for rain. (Louis Kesten Lane, Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20210129 - GTA R Users Group
Association Rules in #RStats #MichaelEnquist @gta_r_users. Major grocery chain dataset with 50,000 customers, 37,000 merchandise items leading to sparse matrix. Apriori algorithm with support at 0.00001 results in 167000 rules. Unlike to run the complete dataset in a reasonable amount of time, more intelligence makes it a popular approach. (GTA R Users Group, Insight Data Science, Adelaide Street E., Toronto, Ontario) 20191016 - Arena Mexico
Lucha libre tag team wrestling with aerial acrobatic moves thrilling the audience. We arrived after the show had started, and were pursued by scalpers up to the ticket window. Not the usual style of family excursion for us, we noticed other parents with young children donning the máscaras (masks) of their heroes. (Arena Mexico, Colonia Doctores, Mexico City) 20191220 - Hugh's Room Live
Tribute to #JoniMitchell @MiaSheard @HughsRoomLive #TaniaGill #ErnieToller @WordsByRGM @ChrisGartner @joelschwartz Songs Are Like Tattoos. Guests rotating on and off stage, first night of two. Brought by millennial son who recognized one song, introduced to interpretations of both popular and obscure repertoire. (Hugh's Room Live, Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20190301 - Lalibela
Ethiopian lunch means eating without cutlery, and using fingers. Relaxed Saturday family gathering, relaxing and catching up on everyone's work week. The grilled tibs are always memorable. Breaking up whole grilled fish with bare hands gives a caveman feel. (Lalibela, Danforth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20190209 - MEC
A trip for bicycle brake pads is mundane, but shopping in person seems extraordinary after pandemic shut down changes to pandemic grey zone. Cantilever style brakes aren't so common these days, the charitable might describe my old bike with a steel frame as vintage. (MEC, Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20210327 - Tommy Thompson Park
Pedestrian bridge between Cell C and Embayment C open on an early Tuesday evening, so can't continue to lighthouse. Fisherman each trying a variety of lures, no success while I was there. The spit is rather long for a walk, it's good for a leisurely bike ride. (Tommy Thompson Park , Toronto, Ontario) 20160531 - Palace of the Jaguars, Teotihuacan
Family tour with a native Teotihuacan guide, starting with the living areas for the priests. Learned that the Teotihuacan constructed the site 200-900AD, at which point the city collapse due to bad harvest and disease, survivors moving on to more fertile lands such as Yucatan. The Aztecs arrived after 1300AD, and didn't add much to the pre-existing structures. Impressed by the engineering on square columns, stucco painted with natural pigments, and aqueducts for fresh water and sewage. (Palace of the Jaguars, Teotihuacan, Mexico) 20191223 - CSI 192 Spadina
Design Session for Social Innovation in Canada @SICanadaTeam @csiTO, attendees introducing selves and sharing breakout conversations. Outline of progress since preliminary consultation late last year, seeking input into beta-beta thinking on pan-Canadian programs under development. Given timeboxed scope for questions, meeting innovators with mutual interests, we barely had time to get past introductions. (Centre for Social Innovation, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20190718
