- Brussels Chinatown
On street with Asian supermarket with a strong reputation in central Brussels, shopping for Chinese vegetables and sauces to prepare a dinner for our hosts over the past 6 days. With wedding celebrations of many days meeting bride's and groom's families and friends, domestic kitchen preparations are a welcomed return to normalcy. (Kam Yuen on corner, with Chinatown along Rue Ste. Catherine, Brussels, Belgium) 20150929 - Buddhas Restaurant
Extended family dinner celebrating nephew's acceptance as visiting scholar at Cambridge U. in the fall, before he departs on summer of international conferences and visiting home. Discussion migrated from sharing recent news, towards "what is history and philosophy of science", and its relevance to today's world. Wide variety of vegan dishes, better shared as a group. (Buddha's Restaurant, Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20190526 - Buddhist Vegetarian Kitchen
Convened a family dinner, as travel schedules have members coming and going so much that most will miss the clan's annual spring event. Venue selected as Chinese vegan cuisine, consistent with the eco-Atkins plant-based diet almost 4 weeks in progress. Ordered goose, beef, chicken, pork dishes, all mock meats, finishing with a side order of duck and then black sesame soup dessert. (Buddhist Vegetarian Kitchen, Midland Avenue, Agincourt, Ontario) 20180409 - Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu
Christmas eve Sunday a tough day to have a birthday lunch, with many restaurants closed. Korean hosts welcomed us as a family, giving us extra dishes. (Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu, Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20171224 - Bulevardi 31, P317
Master's students @metropolia taking a stretch after the first hour of lecture on Service Systems Thinking. Combined classes from Industrial Management and Logistics programs, for a special two hour presentation. From the instructor's view, there was a lot of content to cover, maybe we can structure a better paced program next time. It's the 10th year anniversary since we cofounded the Master's program in Industrial Management. This building housed the Helsinki University of Technology until 1966. (Metropolia Ammattikorkeakoulu / Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Bulevardi 31, Helsinki, Finland) 20151002 - Bulk Barn Front Street
Gluten-free pizza crust mix based on rice flour for tonight's dinner. Dough was hard to shape, so added oatmeal flour to deal with stickiness. Baking resulted in cracker-like thin crust. Topped with pide lahmacun ground beef was dry, would have been better with a pizza tomato sauce. (Bulk Barn, Front Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20161107 - Bus transfer at Keimolanportti
Second time taking bus from Helsinki Vantaa airport to Hämeenlinna. After 15 minutes west then north on highway, first bus parks at truck stop, and waits for second bus to arrive and face other direction. Luggage is moved, then passengers board. No platform or signs. Pragmatic, but strange in total darkness when it's cold outside. Major route towards Tampere. - Buynow Xujiahui
Shopped for Lenovo Yoga Pad Android, tired of hoisting powerful ThinkPad X230T around. Lightweight pen-based device matches OS on mobile phone, screen larger and can sketch notes. New alternative to netbook, without Windows or Mac OS. Full experience of registering purchase with tax authorities. (Buynow, Xujiahui, Shanghai, P R China) 20170407 - C'est What
Casual social gathering of the Systems Thinking TO group led by @DerailleurAgile with pre-pandemic meetings, complemented by Systems Changes Learning Circle members. Updates on learning since 2019 on rhythms, textures and propensity, and how ideas might be expressed for audiences in augle development. Some appreciators of varieties of beers, with non-drinkers scattered within. (C'est What, Front Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20240126 - Cabbagetown Festival
Neighbourhood crowd scene looking south on Parliament Street, north of Winchester Street in the annual Cabbagetown Festival. Unlike summer festivals, didn't seem like out-of-town tourists. Local businesses, small tents with community organizations, side street lawns selling odds and ends. www.cabbagetownfestival.org/ (Toronto) 20110910 1828 - Cafe Boulud
Family celebration in French restaurant, an extravagance with servers mindful of food sensitivities to butter and gluten. Pulled braised rabbit petit plats, Canadian oysters and Parisian steak tartare all a departure from our normal cuisines. (Cafe Boulud, Yorkville, Toronto, Ontario) 20170910 - Cafe Landwer
Birthday celebration on Christmas Eve led us to choose an Israeli cafe downtown, in a reverse of the Jewish tradition of dining in Chinese restaurants during holiday season. Casual, buzzy atmosphere, with many dishes shared by the family. Table eventually became too small for all of the orders, we had to rearrange platings. (Cafe Landwer, University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20231224 - Cafe Noisette
Break for lunch at the CSRP Institute Symposium on one of the small plazas in town, just down the street from the 200-year old Catalan townhouse. Gained advantage of meeting in person, for continuing discussion and adding ideas. Hidden behind the trees is a statue of Julio Antonio, Spanish sculptor 1889-1990). (Cafè Noisette, Plaça de Dalt, Móra d'Ebre, Tarragona, Spain) 20221006 - Cafe Stritch
Timed jambalaya @CafeStritch for Eulipions Jazz Jam, @timlinmusic calling the tunes. House band plays 7pm set on Sunday, so no impact on sleep schedule or work. Visit to California is for business, but there's always time to squeeze in pleasure, with a little planning. (Cafe Stritch, South First Street, San Jose, California) 20170312 - Cafe Tin Tin Tango
Meeting venue popular with coffee up front, laundromat in the back. Fortunately, no clothes were being cleaned while we had our research discussion, so we could sit near a power outlet. Had kaneli pulla (cinnamon buns) with herbal teas. Wifi is available for free 30 minutes at a time, so camping out for the day is monitored by servers. Lavatory was practically Japanese in the economy of space. (Cafe Tin Tin Tango, Toolo, Helsinki, Finland) 20160203
