- Sunday morning on 16th Avenue Denver
Colorado 7:30 a.m. Mountain Time for a traveller from Eastern Time means search for breakfast finds sleepy main street. Last night had many pedestrians on 16th Avenue, but early morning has free bus running in front of closed storefronts (Denver) 20110619 0730 - Eastern Avenue at Carlaw Avenue
Sign of the times with "Cyclists Accommodated With Only Minor Delays", suggesting that automobiles and trucks will be completed diverted. Consistent with the joke that Canada has two seasons: winter, and construction. Temperature swing of 10 degrees Celsius has citizens abandoning parkas. (Eastern Avenue at Carlaw Avenue, Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20210310 - Paramount Front Street
Convening long time friends, one flying 950 miles, the other driving 50 miles, to sync up on ideas over Middle Eastern small dishes. Discussed the progression from Adaptive Enterprise thinking on Reason-for-Being as shifting towards stories as easier for people to express. Timing coincided with Raptors celebration parade, but getting to selected venue still required creative routing around the crowds. (Paramount Middle Eastern Kitchen, Front Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190619 - Tongji U. College of Design and Innovation
Professor Yi Heng Cheng inscribes copies of the Chinese translation of @ClubOfRome book Come On, for Ph.D. students in the Quantitative Methods course. Class exercise will have participants working in teams to define research questions on carbon credit approaches, considering data that may be available, and how it might be used. Intensive course led by Susu Nousala has multiple instructors to give a broader range of perspectives, and more voices to hear. (Tongji University College of Design and Innovation, Siping Road, Yangpu district, Shanghai, PR China) 20180313 - Mythology Diner
Family lunch early for both my birthday and for Christmas, because sons will be on a plane tomorrow to spend holidays with my sister's family. Vegan cross-sampling across Filet O'Fish; Philly; Reubenator; Bacon Double Cheeseburger; Caesar Salad; Cream of Spinach Soup; Poutine; Shakes in Peppermint ChocoChip, Lemoney Meringue, Strawberry; Sweet Tart Pie. Dietary indulgence led to food coma for all. (Mythology Diner, Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20181222 - Woodbine Park
Finishing up afternoon walk south through park, across Woodbine Beach boardwalk, then back north towards Queen Street East. First visit to NPI and CL in apartment, condominium building with finishing touches and people moving in. Parents dragging toddlers on sleds through the snow. (Woodbine Park, Coxwell Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20201227 - DI_20161013 092210 RSD5 OCADU DesignXSystemicDesign group3
- Palmerston casual dinner
Invitees list included many active in Canasian Artists Group circa mid-1980s, and friends of the Asian Canadian bookstore of Andrew Lee. Today's generation doesn't know the history of Toronto 30 years ago, and we debated whether they need to know. (Palmerston, Toronto, Ontario) 20160604 - Lower Don Recreation Trail
Don Mills Road Underpass eastbound from E.T. Seton Park is new to me, despite decades of bicycling around the city. Just north of junction of West Don River branch and main Don River, bridge wends over rail tracks. Routed from Thornecliffe Park to the north, coming down a very long hill that I wouldn't want to bike up on. (Don Mills Road Underpass, Lower Don Recreation Trail, Don Mills, Ontario) 20200609 - HarbourfrontCentre TaiwanFest
Neo-psychedelic indie rock @EchoBand Echo announced songs in Mandarin, and had audience dancing in their seats. Detailed instructions of directions for hands, up, down, left, right. Much of the audience wouldn't understand the lyrics, but music plus demonstrations are a universal language. Taiwan Fest also had The Art of Seating, Pan-Asian Culinary Competition, and the Holy Sheep from LunarFest. (Harbourfront Centre, Toronto) 20150829 - Disrupting the Disruptors
Plenary @rabble @CoopsCanada #platformcoop Building Platform Coops (Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, Toronto Public Library) 20170909 - CSI Spadina
Systems Thinking peer circle #ClimateVentures @csiTO trying examples on @Andy_Boynton #BartVictor @JoePine. Product-Process Change Matrix with (i) Invention and Mass Production where demand > supply; (ii) Continuous Improvement and Mass Customization where supply > demand. These entrepreneurs found these explained a lot of the challenges they're experiencing. (Climate Ventures, Centre for Social Innovation, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20181203 - DI_20161012 084943 DMZ tour
- Luobuma 罗布麻 leaves
Not available in North American, luobuma 罗布麻 is a traditional Chinese treatment for hypertension that appears easy to acquire in Shanghai. The package on the left was purchased on the major shopping street (Huaihai Middle Road), and the package on the right from a small neighbourhood store (Ruijin Road). The left resembles black tea; the right appears less processed as a green tea. Does the conventional wisdom of green tea preserving more antioxidants than black tea transfer over to other types of herbs? (Former French Concession, Shanghai, PR China) 20190326 - 18 Yonge
South of overhead rail tracks, @OtternessStudio 2007 "Immigrant Family" bronze in front of #Lanterra building reflects the hope for the future amongst new arrivals to the city. Migrants from Eastern Europe arrived after WWII by ship to Halifax, and by train to Toronto. In the block just north of the elevated Gardiner Expressway, the sculpture is well lit, but the site isn't on the beaten path for pedestrians. (Immigrant Family sculpture, Yonge Street north of Lake Shore Boulevard, Toronto, Ontario) 20200728
