- Queen's Park
If Queen Victoria (reign 1837-1901) looked over her shoulder, she would see J. Sandfield Macdonald (first premier of Ontario, 1867-1864). Government offices are closed on the public holiday, visitors can enjoy the green space on bright summer day. City has started to open up from pandemic shutdown, optimistic for more social time. Kosso Eloul (1978) Innercity Gate sculpture welds three black stainless steel rectangular boxes in a precarious balance. Straight lines show influences of artist's studies with Frank Lloyd Wright. Outside a wing of Toronto General Hospital, not on a medical visit, just bicycle tourism. (R. Fraser Elliott Building, Elizabeth Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20210425 - Riverside neighbourhood
Snow outside our bedroom window onto the street for the first day of December strikes fear into morning commuters. South of Queen Street East, just east of the Don River, we have a microclimate, so precipitation melted to wetness by later in day. Three weeks to winter solstice, and then we hope for brighter days. - Crothers Woods
Long stroll with @redesign from Broadview Avenue down through Todmorden MIlls, around Cottonwood Flats. Is this an old CP Rail line towards Belleville? We encountered two acquaintances and said hello, dispersed social interactions still under pandemic distancing. (Crothers Woods, Broadview North, Toronto, Ontario) 20210722 - Queens Cafe (1950s) Gravenhurst
Discovered stack of order blanks for our family's restaurant in the 1950s (or 1960s). Header reads: * We Serve Dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. * All meals include Soup, Bread, Butter, Potatoes and Dessert. * Tea, Coffee or Milk with Meal 10c Extra. Footer reads: * Kindly tell waiter if you desire Meals Well Done, Medium or Rare. * Not Responsible for Lost or Mislaid Articles. Was this from the early 1950s, before Chinese food was served in town? Clearing out historical artifacts. (Queen's Cafe, Muskoka Road S. Gravenhurst, Ontario) 20191019 - Summer umbrellas on Gould Street west of Victoria Street into Yonge Street
Ryerson University taking over Gould Street for a pedestrian mall east of Yonge Street, one north of Dundas Street. A permanent change to the streetscape, or a temporary use during construction? - DI_20160617 191450 PleasantHill malecousins blind
- The Hearn, turbine hall, upper level
Luminato has temporarily refurbished the interior of the hall that one housed eight large turbines. Art was placed on the first floor, and then on the walls of the level up six flights of stairs. Diners were arriving at the restaurant at this level. (Luminato, The Hearn, Unwin Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20160616 - Westbrae neighbourhood
Convening #SystemsThinking salon @MitroffCrisis @bortseb opportunistically expanded with social ties for talk and pizza. Practical questions with theoretical and philosophical back stories, through histories of science. New house is more centrally located in town, conveniences within walking distance. (Westbrae, North Berkeley, California) 20190706 - Riverside neighbourhood
Working from home, new workplace arrangement, as office sent me a 27" monitor for laptop. I already had a laptop and and monitor, plus computer tower under desk. Setup with cleaning took 3 hours of company time, a slow day on a holiday weekend. More tweaks are expected, I spend many so many hours at the keyboard.
