- ABC Mart Ximen
Sympathetic shopping encouraged by Easycard charged with Taiwan the Lucky Land promotion, accepted for merchandise purchases. Found Nike Air Monarchs to replace very old New Balance soles that developed a crack. Happy to find mens 6.5 size shoes in Asia, they're rarely available in North America. ((ABC Mart, Emei Street, Wanhua District, Taipei City, Taiwan) 20231012 - Absolute Bakery
Wider selection of breads in front window of neighbourhood bakery, pies and pastries in the cases behind. Chose rye bread for a change, will return for multigrain on another trip. Weather 6 degrees C and cloudy, no snow on the ground meant opportunity for bicycling on a mild Toronto day. Continuing pattern of sampling non-artisanal bakers around town. (Absolute Bakery, Parliament Street, Cabbagetown, Toronto, Ontario) 20160126 - AC001 Toronto Tokyo
Two aisle seats booked, lucky with middle seat unclaimed, to give a little more room for napping on the 12-hour flight from Toronto Pearson to Tokyo Narita. Air Canada flight arrived early, had to wait 30 minutes for Narita Express train as just missed the one prior. Trip from airport to hotel completely in daylight, snow is practically all gone after heavy weekend accumulation. (Toronto-Tokyo) 20140217 1146 - AC005 YYZ-HND
Flight delay of 2 hours to 3:45pm had me falling asleep in Maple Leaf Lounge, as I stayed awake and worked through last night. Mechanical problems means will arrive in Tokyo after sunset, so body schedule will probably be confused. New release movies haven't changed since last flight, so I'm spending too much time on long hauls. (Air Canada 005, Toronto Pearson to Tokyo Haneda) 20160309 - AC741
Leaving YYZ, heading to SFO. Father's docs are better than mine, I had a secondary screening all the way to gate. Started voyage early, stress was low. (Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Ontario) 20220422 - AC759
Seat 17D on an Air Canada Airbus A319 is behind a jump seat, and doesn't have a screen to watch movies. Since the flight arrives at SFO at 2:30 a.m. Toronto time, maybe this is a signal that I should sleep. (AC759, Toronto Pearson International Airport) 20170310 - AC856 new 787-8
New config, see USB, still looking for AC power outlet. Sad goodbye to DY, she had traveled with me since July. Will wake up in London early. - Accelerated Discovery Lab
Discussing @rarar @snousala trajectories of design and research, appreciating generational evolution as interactive technologies have risen. Puzzle includes design at user interface level, and in enterprise systems. (Accelerated Discovery Lab, IBM Almaden Research Centre, San Jose, California) 20161025 - Accelerated Discovery Lab
Former library space has been repurposed so that researchers and industry practitioners can collaborate in a central, open space. Workshop on Mycroft Cognitive Mediator moved out of windowless meeting room for an hour, in a change on scenery. Presentation includes Labbook prototype currently under research. (IBM Almaden, San Jose, California) 20151215 - Ace Hotel
Rooftop view with patio heaters, reception mostly inside celebrating @TimOkamuraArt hosted by @PRGallery in town for @ArtToronto. We arrived early at Evangeline on 14th floor, later hearing of others queued up downstairs due to capacity constraints. Walking back to our car, passed many clubgoers dressed for Halloween, not our typical evenings these days. (Ace Hotel, Camden Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20221028 - Addiction Aquatic Development
Arriving mid-evening, routing around the water tanks with sealife, we opted to bypass the high-end restaurants to find the takeout sushi being marked down. After paying cash at checkout, we enjoyed chutoro, scallops, tuna gunkan, ikura don and assorted nigiri at the stand-up tables. Walked along dark streets to and from the venue, the nearby Second Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market is an early morning neighbourhood. (Addiction Aquatic Development, Minzu East Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan) 20231012 - Adelaide Courtyard
Installation #StaceySpiegel (1991) Synthetic Eden, in courtyard hidden behind One Financial Place at Yonge Street and Adelaide Street, large decal looming above on 20 Victoria Street. Discovered on leisurely bike exploration on Victoria Day Monday, when both business people and tourists were not prowling the sidewalks. Art isn't obvious from Adelaide Street, behind a maze of frosted glass walls. Location is not to be confused with the Richmond-Adelaide Square Courtyard, a few blocks further west on the other side of Bay Street. (Adelaide Courtyard, 87 Yonge Street and 20 Victoria Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20190520 - Aeon Market Granpark
End-of-day clearance take-out sushi in Tokyo supermarket is better than some restaurant food on other side of ocean. Large display of Florida navel oranges is twice the price of local varieties. Full service supermarket is in basement of complex across the street from usual hotel in Shibaura district. Flight to Haneda was delayed by 2 hours, so friends went for dinner without me. (Aeon Market Granpark, Shibaura, Minato, Tokyo) 20160310 - Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez
Variation on Home Alone 2, Lost in Mexico City, as RDI extends his stay for three days, while the family boards a plane to Toronto. A Nexus card isn't enough to board an international flight, and his passport was misplaced on a Saturday. Presuming a consultate visit on Monday, rebooked flight home for Tuesday, and reserved an AirBnB. It turns out that the passport was in the bag of AHI, who was on a flight to San Francisco 7 hours earlier. Documents on the way via courier. (Terminal 1, Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez, Mexico City) 20191228 - After School Matters installation
Stained glass umbrellas overhead, and windows to both sides of corridor between Terminal 1 and 2. Designed by schoolchildren in 2008 as acrylic and hand drawings, reproduced as skylines along the path. (Chicago O'Hare) 20141207
