- 120 Bloor Street East
Martin Bunch at Systems Thinking Ontario presenting on Ecosystem Approaches to Health, with 3 case studies. Uptown venue for first session to include remote electronic participation, started off with the dreaded delay of fumbling with technology. (120 Bloor Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20170517 - 156 Booth Ave.
Across our street, two alarm fire at 3:30 a.m. called out 12 trucks and 45 firefighters. This morning, the exit out the front of our house was blocked as a crime scene. One neighbour has an exterior video camera capturing intruders on the scene in the night. Fire trucks are now gone, yellow police tape is around that property. Houses to the north and south both damaged. (156 Booth Avenue, Riverside district, Toronto, Ontario) 20170627 - 3600 Steeles Ave. E.
IBM Master Clock built circa 1945 in Endicott, NY, on display in the corridor outside IBM Canada HQ module A2. Noticed artifact on a "take your father to work day" informally with my son, as I had a lunch meeting with a friend. (IBM Canada Ltd., 3600 Steeles Avenue East, Markham, Ontario) 20170823 - 875 Queen Street East
Former Woodgreen Pharmacy building gone, wall of former Woodgreen Red Door Shelter in deconstruction. Had never been inside building, soon there won't be any structure to see. (875 Queen Street East, southwest corner at Logan Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20170122 - AC759
Seat 17D on an Air Canada Airbus A319 is behind a jump seat, and doesn't have a screen to watch movies. Since the flight arrives at SFO at 2:30 a.m. Toronto time, maybe this is a signal that I should sleep. (AC759, Toronto Pearson International Airport) 20170310 - Ahvenisto Lake
Winter swimming area kept clear of ice by air bubbling near shore. Steps down from public sauna are kept warm for health enthusiasts who want to warm up before plunging into the cold. In early evening, saw visitors headed towards the building, then a woman emerged in near freezing temperatures to enter the water. We walked a path around the lake, illuminated after the sunset before 3:30 p.m. (Ahvenisto Lake, Hameenlinna, Finland) 20171202 - Anestis Taverna
Attracted to resto by friendly wave from the grill at the front window. Impromptu dinner scheduled in a newer resto in Greektown, good moussaka and souvlaki Winter storm redirected driving route away from crossing 401, through to downtown and then uptown again. (Anestis Taverna, Danforth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20170210 - Anshansicun
Whimsically painted building in residential area, park directly south and exercise walkways just to the west. Exploring the neighbourhoods on foot reveals some beautiful enclaves away from the main thoroughfares and generic apartment towers. (Sujiatun Road at Fuxin Road, Anshansicun, Shanghai, PR China) 20171123 - Appel Salon
Main day of @CoopsCanada #platformcoop conference, with presentations from both emerging and established organizations. Knowledge base is nascent on digital platforms, multi-stakeholder coops seem complicated. Typing during day and posting blogs online at night is tiring. (Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, Toronto Public Library) 20170909 - Ashbridges Bay Park
Southwest view from peninsula sees moorings of yacht club, smokestack from Hearn Generating Station, and CN Tower in the distance. Portlands are landfill into the original Ashbridges Marsh, now deep enough for sailboats. (Ashbridges Bay Park, Toronto, Ontario) 20170905 - Avonwick
Superbowl big screen, switched to U.S. tv station to watch commercials from original broadcast instead of Canadian simulcast. Annual event has most of us spending more time on visiting with friends, we're not really football spectators. (Avonwick, Mississauga, Ontario) 20170205 - BAFTA
Christmas menu available, but we selected from the regular menu lunch menu in the busy member's club for the actors in film and television. Hosted by a working media professional, I wouldn't have recognized any celebrities as a visitor to this country. A quick meal, due to an unexpected emergency at home. (BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London, UK) 20171207 - Baker & Spice
Convenient intercept meeting in Former French Concession, with scholars coming from Canada/Finland, China/Finland and Netherlands/Canada. Multi-hour discussion in the relaxed corner of a bakery cafe, with a toddler racing circles on a tricycle. Will consult calendars for next face-to-face with extended colleagues. (Baker & Spice, Former French Concession, Shanghai, P R China) 20170407 - Banana Leaf
Asam Fish Head uncommon in Malaysian restaurants, authentic taste evokes memories of visit to Singapore many years ago. Dish came last after beef with eggplant, and roti prata appetizer. Multicultural cuisine is a benefit of diversity in the Bay Area. (Banana Leaf Restaurant, McCarthy Ranch Marketplace, Milpitas, California) 20170311 - Beeton Hall
Intensive workshop @CoopsCanada #platformcoop, with practicalities of legal, governance and financing. Questions on "if you had to do it again, what would you do differently" from firms both Canadian and international insightful. (Beeton Hall, Toronto Public Library) 20170910
