- Buddhas Restaurant
Extended family dinner celebrating nephew's acceptance as visiting scholar at Cambridge U. in the fall, before he departs on summer of international conferences and visiting home. Discussion migrated from sharing recent news, towards "what is history and philosophy of science", and its relevance to today's world. Wide variety of vegan dishes, better shared as a group. (Buddha's Restaurant, Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20190526 - Calle Rio Lerma
Apprehension of accessing keysafe at the AirBnB at 1 a.m., having been dropped off by an Uber from Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez. Wide door is beside two interior parking spaces, security key allows access to 5th floor apartment and 6th floor bedrooms. First time in Mexico City, neighbourhood appears to have life, even after dark. (Calle Rio Lerma, Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City) 20191218 - Callejon de Mesones
Mural by #SebastianBastardo @540c487671dd40c in Centro Historico rejuvenated in recent years. Five-hour walking guided walking tour starting from Templo Mayor, to National Palace, San Juan Market and Pulquería Las Duelistas. Did our best to avoid big Saturday crowds, but wall-to-wall shoppers coming up to Christmas. (Callejon de Mesones, CentroHistorico, Mexico City) 20191221 - CANSEE 2019
Workshop with @davidlhawk @CANSEE_org on Systems Changes, Environmental Deterioration. Two position presentations, attendees introduced selves, then had open discussion aiming to synthesize the ideas. Leisurely pace encouraging us to think together, as compared to the time-constrained agendas in other sessions. Notetaker will produce summary in a few weeks. (Canadian Society for Ecological Economic, CIGI Campus, Erb Street, Waterloo, Ontario) 20190524 - CANSEE 2019
Learning from @ktkish and son Logan @CANSEE_org covering @DaveMallery varying #DrSeuss on "Oh, The Things You CAN'T Think" on how #EcologicalEconomics could learn from a deeper appreciation of SystemsTheory. Citing #HowardTOdum, #KennethBoulding, #NicholasGeorgescuRoegen and #IlyaProgogine sparked recollections from @DavidLHawk who had met three of the four. While much of #EcologicalEconomics has swung towards the nonmaterial, #IndustrialEcology is largely material. (Canadian Society for Ecological Economics 2019 meeting, Centre for International Governance Innovation campus, Erb Street, Waterloo, Ontario) 20190523 - CASCONxEvoke 2019
Workshop #CASCONxEvoke led by @RohanAlexander @prof_lyons on Barriers to Data Science Adoption: What Existing Frameworks Aren't Working, with industry panelists providing perspectives. Definitions for #ArtificialIntelligence , #MachineLearning, #DataScience blurred under misconceptions and unfounded expectations. Session served as kickoff towards a research proposal that might be executed over the next 5 years. (CASCONxEvoke conference, Hilton Conference Centre, Markham, Ontario) 20191105 - Centennial Park Conservatory
Carp in pool inside greenhouse enjoy a peaceful existence, while the winter temperature outside is colder than seasonal average. The flora and fauna are available 365 days per year to the citizens of the city. This venue is physically smaller than the location downtown, but the scent of flowers is noticed here. (Centennial Park Conservatory, Elmcrest Road, Etobicoke, Ontario) 20190101 - CH2M Alumni Centre
Workshop @ISSSMeeting @OSUAlumniCenter with @wardcunningham @michaelwmehaffy on Federated Wiki and Pattern Language. A few attendees claimed personal sites on wiki.openlearning.cc . From start.fed.wiki , readers got comfortable with cursor keys and moving around #FederatedWiki. Then, from mehaffy.fed.wiki.org , recent history on advancing #PatternLanguage. Loose agenda at http://isss2019.daviding.wiki.openlearning.cc/view/introduction-to-federated-wiki-and-pattern-language . (CH2M Hill Alumni Center, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon) 20190630 - CH2M Alumni Centre
Workshop @ISSSMeeting @OSUAlumniCenter with @bortseb on Open Learning Commons and Digital Life Collective @tech_we_trust. Team of stewards convened for official launch of open source tools for collaboration, towards the promise of learning journeys for which artifacts endure. Relaxed pace through http://isss2019.daviding.wiki.openlearning.cc/view/introduction-to-the-open-learning-commons-and-the-digital-life-collective (CH2M Hill Alumni Center, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon) 20190630 - CH2M Alumni Centre
Poster @ISSSMeeting @OSUAlumniCenter @MarcoCataffo @snousala @daviding Data Standards for Computational Ecology: Constraining soft sub-systems to increase internal complexity for community resilience. http://creativesystemic.com/posters/ Research in progress, not the final publication. Third author is the courier to the conference. (CH2M Hill Alumni Centre, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon) 20190629 - CH2M Alumni Centre
Welcome desk @ISSSMeeting @OSUAlumniCenter on first day, registration packages ready for attendees. Bright, open venue evokes the spirit of optimism in the American Pacific Northwest. Seeing many familiar faces, plus some earlier in their systems thinking experiences. (CH2M Hill Alumni Centre, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon) 20190628 - China Visa Centre
Procedures changed with online submissions done in advance including digital photo. One line to validate passport and take another picture; second line to review documents and take fingerprints; third line now requires payment in advance rather than at pickup in 3 days. Appointments are scheduled by hour, there's less of a lineup showing up on the half hour. (China Visa Centre, University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20180304 - Chow Optometrist
Imaging of gas-permeable contact lens fitting explains why my vision is foggy in the left eye. Incomplete wetting means that there are dry spots behind the lens. Remedy is to take a few more minutes to more diligently rub wetting solution into lens, or else switch to an alternative hydrogen peroxide formulation that coats the surface with a moisturizer. (Chow Optometrist, Ferrier Street, Markham, Ontario) 20190712 - Christie Pits Park
Picnic @TheLeadersExp Toronto Local Circle, @HCrochetiere reserved ahead for the shelter, removing stress when rain materialized. A small social project for the summer, our first together! Random potluck sharing, leftovers to take home. (Christie Pits Park, Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20190716 - Cineplex Yonge Dundas
Family viewing of #AvengersEndgame in IMAX 3D, in a full showing, 9 days after its opening. We normally prefer IMAX 2D in a full-size screen, but reserved seats were sold out. The movie seemed shorter than its 3h01m running time, tying up the 21-episode series that we've followed for some years. (Cineplex Yonge Dundas, Dundas Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190504
