- Sunday morning dim sum
Routing back home, Adam and Ayaka hosted us for brunch at a Chinese restaurant nearby. The popular dim sum selections are available from the pushcarts, and we ordered rice noodles from the kitchen. Clientele was predominantly non-Asian, so some entertainment from first-time diners at the next table. I now have a little headache and a slight feeling of depression, so it's either the warm summer humidity, or the MSG level is higher than back home. (Golden Harvest, Warren, Michigan) 20150802 - Gerrard Square northeast footpath
Found pedestrian route south of rail tracks, north of parking garage at east end of parking structure. Biking south on Jones Avenue, turned westbound into parking laneway, crossed Galt Avenue to discover shortcut to shopping mall. These laneways have no house entries, so no name. (Gerrard Square northeast footpath, west of Galt Avenue, Riverdale, Ontario) 20160514 - Astro Stage
Greek dancing by @LevendiaX Hellenic Folklore Assoc @Taste_Danforth, near Jones Ave. Pedestrian traffic seems denser at the east end of the street festival, with kiddie rides and more community tents. Since we live within biking distance, the neighbourhood, we can visit when the crowds aren't there. (Taste of the Danforth, Greektown, Toronto) 20150808 - Michael's Lapeer MI
Rest stops at crafting stores on drives across Michigan, Indiana and Illinois relieve the tedium on the way to Iowa. The chains have branches in many small towns, and rest rooms in the strip malls are well kept. DY checks out the clearance section for random deals. (Michael's, Main Street, Lapeer, Michigan) 20161213 - 168 Asian Mart
Michigan evening for Chinese groceries before driving to Iowa in the morning. Korean-style rice grown in the U.S. is something we don't see back home. The vegetables and sauces are much the same as everywhere. (168 Asian Mart, John R Road, Madison Heights, Michigan) 20160502 - Sugar Beach
City dwellers lounging on chairs facing southwest towards Toronto Harbour in late afternoon, enjoying the sunset. It's still spring in Toronto, so high fluctuations of temperatures meant bright sun, but I was biking around with scarf and mitts. Saw some die-hard runners in shorts with bare legs at 10 degrees C. (Sugar Beach, Dockside Drive, Toronto, Ontario) 20230427 - Rue Maria Malibran
Wrapping up first #CreativeSystemic Research Platform Institute Symposium and Annual General Meeting. In-person attendees in Brussels, virtual attendees in Shanghai, Singapore, UK, Italy, and on a train in the Netherlands. The first year of starting up a new institution is a lot of learning, processes should be ironed on in future years. (Rue Marie Malibran, Ixelles, Brussels, Belgium) 20211107 - Sky Dragon
Three generations, between the eighth and ninth course at the Lowkong clan Spring Festival banquet. Photos happen when I lend my camera to a friend. (Sky Dragon, Spadina Chinatown, Toronto, Ontario) 20160430 - Ueno Park
Bloom of Cherry Blossoms attracts many Japanese to Ueno Park. so space is measured off with tarpaulins underneath, to allow visiting groups to socialize, picnic (and drink alcohol). Tradition of removing shoes is preserved even outdoors. Large garbage bins have been placed nearby, with signs to reduce confusion about sorting. (Ueno Park, Taito, Tokyo, Japan) 20170325 - Mandarin Barrie
After the drive north for a 30-minute business meeting, buffet lunch with the first of three modest main course plates, then desserts. Preferences centered on Chinese selections, he declined on the roast beef and salads. For a pescatarian, still many choices available, struck by the too-generous sashimi cuts of salmon and tuna, each more than a mouthful. (Mandarin Restaurant, Fairview Road, Barrie, Ontario) 20231212 - Corktown Commons playground ready for children
Aqua colored soft playground surfaces in quiet playground on a cool late Thursday afternoon. Road construction and unfinished apartment buildings mean families not yet nearby. View north to Adelaide overpass. (Toronto) 20140508 - Gould Street
Unexpected installations for @timberfever @RyersonDAS design-build competition in middle of pedestrian mall. Shells of reading room with books scattered, in case passersby pause for some literary edification. (Gould Street, Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario) 20170926 - Brussels Chinatown
On street with Asian supermarket with a strong reputation in central Brussels, shopping for Chinese vegetables and sauces to prepare a dinner for our hosts over the past 6 days. With wedding celebrations of many days meeting bride's and groom's families and friends, domestic kitchen preparations are a welcomed return to normalcy. (Kam Yuen on corner, with Chinatown along Rue Ste. Catherine, Brussels, Belgium) 20150929 - Systems Thinking Ontario
Debriefing of #RSD4 with @playthink plenary sketches complements videos by Systemic Design Research Network newly on YouTube. Peter Jones reviewing the background of prior Relating Systems Thinking and Design symposiums, and prospects for next year's meeting scheduled for Toronto. (Systems Thinking Ontario, Lambert Lounge, OCAD U, Toronto) 20150916 - SFO Gate G98
Rigo 23 (1999) "Thinking of Balmy Alley" is a 378x240 inch ceramic type mosaic hanging in the atrium on the wall above the doors to Gate G98. The artist, residing in San Fran, was inspired by a mural (since destroyed) painted in 1993 by the artist and local youth in Balmy Alley, located in San Francisco’s Mission District. This work is lit by daylight through a window to its right. It is part of the collection of the SFO Museum, if travellers will take a moment to look up from their destination-oriented travel.
