Cut tree trunk with branch, light showing through hollows in two dimensions, closed on the bottom. In a park by busy streets, did planners or city workers design to leave a small point of interest next to the mature tree? Dog run to the south, many pedestrians with canines happy to see each other. (Clarence Square, Spadina Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20201021 - Circular Living Lab
Waste wood can be converted to biochar, and used to increase soil heath, while sequestering carbon to mitigate climate change. Otherwise salvaged 40,000 board feet of old growth lumber in deconstruction of 9 bedroom, 31 room, 9850 sq ft house in Erin Ontario. Exhibition in downtown Toronto is on the site of a planned material reuse project of the former Wellington Destructor, a century-old garbage incinerator that will become a community space. (Circular Living Lab, Niagara Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20240128 - Cineplex Yonge Dundas
Family viewing of #AvengersEndgame in IMAX 3D, in a full showing, 9 days after its opening. We normally prefer IMAX 2D in a full-size screen, but reserved seats were sold out. The movie seemed shorter than its 3h01m running time, tying up the 21-episode series that we've followed for some years. (Cineplex Yonge Dundas, Dundas Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190504 - Cineplex Queensway
Tuesday Matinee viewing of Avengers Infinity War in UltraAVX non-3D is a lot to absorb, having to recall linkages over 10 years of movies. Between prior 16-day trip and upcoming 10-day trip, squeezing in regular life is a luxury. (Cineplex Cinema Queensway, Etobicoke, Ontario) 20180501 - Cineplex Queensway
Given choice between 2D and 3D, still preferring the older technology. Arrived early, as last time in different cinema was crowded, but this time isn't during a school break. Luxury of time to see matinee of Guardians of the Galaxy v2. (Cineplex Queensway, Etobicoke, Ontario) 20170509 - Cineplex Eglinton Town Centre
Still routing to movie theatres for 2D Star Trek Beyond, the big screen without 3D glasses is entertainment enough. Tuesday discount draws crowd for late afternoon show,. As we left, the ticket queues were really long for the evening show. Summertime somehow matches blockbuster movies. (Cineplex Odeon Eglinton Town Centre Cinemas, Toronto, Ontario) 20160816 - Cineplex Eglinton
Experimented with Black Panther in a 2D IMAX conventional room. Enjoyed the movie, but can't say that the image quality was noticeably better than on a regular screen. Seat was about 1/3 from the front, dead center, so screen filled field of view. For a 4pm Tuesday movie, there were less than 20 customers, so viewers may have targeted the 7pm 3D version. (Cineplex Eglinton Town Centre, Lebovic Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario) 20180227 - Cineplex 4DX
Enjoyed Matinee of Blade Runner 2049, 4DX experience a change from our preference for 2D. The 3D effect was subtle, may not repeat the bucking seat, blowing air and cool water sprays. In hindsight, would have preferred the larger screen of Imax. Epic movie! (Cineplex VIP, Yonge-Dundas, Toronto, Ontario) 20171010 - Christie Pits Park
Picnic @TheLeadersExp Toronto Local Circle, @HCrochetiere reserved ahead for the shelter, removing stress when rain materialized. A small social project for the summer, our first together! Random potluck sharing, leftovers to take home. (Christie Pits Park, Bloor Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20190716 - Chow Optometrist
Imaging of gas-permeable contact lens fitting explains why my vision is foggy in the left eye. Incomplete wetting means that there are dry spots behind the lens. Remedy is to take a few more minutes to more diligently rub wetting solution into lens, or else switch to an alternative hydrogen peroxide formulation that coats the surface with a moisturizer. (Chow Optometrist, Ferrier Street, Markham, Ontario) 20190712 - Choral jazz @BurdockTo
Isis Giraldo Voces project @torontojazzfest, unexpected a capella harmonies in a warm set with an excellent sound system. Performers from Montreal have a different sense of musicality, great that they can share this on tour. Opening for Emma Frank. (Burdock Music Hall, Toronto) 20150618 - Chocolateria San Gines
Two orders of hot dark chocolate fondue with 6 churros each, to end off a full day of touring Madrid. At 9pm, the outdoor tables had a queue waiting, but we were seated within minutes at an indoor table of the cafe founded in 1894. DY calculates the calories higher in the churros than in the chocolate, possibly forgiveable with the 26,000 steps taken this day. (Chocolatería San Ginés, Pasadizo de San Ginés, Madrid, Spain) 20221001 - Chocolate Village Museum
Wandering Koekelberg, saw sign leading to old Victoria Chocolate factory, now renovated as history for the whole chocolate industry from 1896 through those acquired in the 1930s and then the 1970s. Late in afternoon for tour, saw the tile murals including the three artisinal confectioners. The Godiva Chocolate offices are on the next street over. Continued walk through Molenbeek, down to Place Ste. Catherine. (Chocolate Village Museum, Rue De Neck, Koekelberg, Brussels Capital Region, Belgium) 20161126
