- Tortilleria Cuauhtemoc
Masa dough feeding into a press at small stall of #TortilleriaCuauhtemoc in back of our local #MercadoCuauhtemoc for fresh flatbread packaged to go, with salsas and guacamole on the side. From our apartment, we walk a few blocks for fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as sampling the centre aisle of open kitchens. The neighbourhood otherwise has convenience stores, but we haven't encountered any major chains, since we arrived. (Tortilleria Cuauhtemoc, Mercado Cuauhtemoc, Calle Rio Lerma, Mexico City) 20191219 - Pycon 2019
What @CBCNews knows about Canadians @robroc #PyData @pyconca, analyzing text with #word2vec on corpus of 6 years of news stories. Looking for similarities, didn't find biases reported in American research. Using gensim and spacy, cosine similarity training took hours, but then model allowed audience to interactively ask questions. Montreal is to poutine, as Vancouver is to sushi. (Python Canada 2019, The Carlu, College Park, Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20191116 - Sears Atrium
Mine the Data @ChangSchool company showcase and networking event starting with @WalterFlaat @dentsuaegis blinded by sunlight, leading to second presenter wearing sunglasses. Officially not #DataScience or #BigData hiring event, attendees learned about what's happening in the market, with intelligence about candidate selection. Event full to capacity with eager students, young and old. (Sears Atrium, George Vari Centre, Ryerson University, Toronto, Ontario) 20191010 - Royal Myanmar
Dinner with @StallmanRM @FSF inviting the activists @CivicTechTO to gain some insight into discussions on privacy concerns @QuaysideToronto, We outlined but didn't delve into the complexity of three levels of government involved in @WaterfrontTO. #RichardStallman enjoys diverse cuisines in the variety of cities he visits, with commutes to obscure locations a minor inconvenience. Accordion recital, Finnish folk music and Bach. Recital of students in Hameenlinna, in the week leading up to the 68th Coupe Mondiale (World) Accordion Competition in Turku, Finland. - PLoP-PUARL 2018
Wolfgang Stark reviewing prior 2017 meeting after Purplsoc Krems meeting, on expanding the scope of pattern language. That meeting had participants crossing 25 domains. (Portland Urban Architecture Research Lab international conference, NW Couch Street, Portland, Oregon) 20181026 - Gate403 Roam Project trio pipe
Some new compositions by @RoamToronto in acoustic trio @Gate403 early evening show. Occasion for spousal date night in Roncesvalles Village. First set audience had infant in baby carrier, restaurant filled up by second set. Roam is Lisa Patterson (accordion, sax, piano), Alex McMaster (cello), Justin Abedin (guitar). (Gate 403, Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, Ontario) 20160429 - Systems Thinking TO
Summer retrospective and thinking forward for #SystemsThinking Ontario, relaxed discussion on plans for rest of year amongst small group. Session was organized on short notice, as last month was prorogued in vacation season. Will bring back swashbooking, and try some case studies as coming events. (System Thinking TO, Loyalty One, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20190828 - PLoP 2017 Writers' Workshop -- Simplicity and Inner Calm Group
- St. Michael's Hospital
Looking over shoulder of lab technician for carotid ultrasound, unofficially read as normal. Precautionary diagnostic in assessing risk associated with high blood pressure, since my family practice doctor wants to prescribe medication, and my Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor assesses me as normal. Ultrasound is non-invasive, seemly more common in Asia, as the technician says that those patients arrive with previous histories in hand. - Riverside neighbourhood
Back home in Toronto, DY down with delayed Montezuma's revenge. Three of four sons also had symptoms around days 9 and 10 of our 11-day vacation. Pity for RDI recovering in Mexico City, flying back overnight. Minor jet lag for me, biked to Chinatown to stock up on groceries, temperature drop tomorrow with possible snow. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20191230 - Woodbine Beach
Big red chair is double-sized, not so functional for relaxing when facing away from the bay. Bright, sunny day attracts pedestrians onto the boardwalk, but it's still cold enough to wear full-finger gloves on the bicycle. - Sargasso, by Philip Beesley, in the Allen Lambert Gallery at Brookfield Place
Part of the Luminato festival, an installation titled Sargasso, by Philip Beesley, suspended in the main thoroughfare named the Allen Lambert Galleria in Brookfield Place, 181 Bay Street. I listened to the downloadable MP3 commentary, leading me to think that the nylon cables have stretched so that the canopy that is supposed to hover at one metre is at one foot, 8 days after the work was opened.
