- Lakeshore Boulevard East
On weekends, the roadway eastbound from Cherry Street has been shut down, as the overhead concrete surfaces are being crushed and removed. There was an alternative not taken to remove the whole structure, so the pillars for a fixture for the foreseeable future. Weekday drivers to the east end are still getting used to alternative routes. (Lakeshore Boulevard East, east of Cherry Street, Toronto, Ontario) 20210911 - Crothers Woods
Long stroll with @redesign from Broadview Avenue down through Todmorden MIlls, around Cottonwood Flats. Is this an old CP Rail line towards Belleville? In the 1960s and 1970s, the sign facing east used to read Kent Tv, Furniture & Appliances. The second window upstairs on the south side is the bedroom that my brother Ben and I shared through primary and high school. I left town in 1976 for university, came back briefly in 1984 with DY after leaving graduate school (the first time), and hadn't slept here again overnight until last month. We're clearing out artifacts of a generation that is passing. (325 Muskoka Road S., Gravenhurst, Ontario) 20190929 - East Ocean Restaurant
Meeting with maternal Yee aunts, uncle and cousin for dim sum in the East Bay. Mishmash of languages with English, Toisan and Mandarin mixed across generations. Years between gatherings of elders, more opportunities for the young who travel more. (East Ocean Seafood Restaurant, Webster Street, Alameda, California) 20190706 - Cybernetics in Chicago
The Role of Multiple Levels by Timothy F.H. Allen @ASC_Cybernetics keynote speaker. Described systems sciences colleagues often as naive realists. Complexity is the way you look at a system. Funtowicz & Ravetz (1992) see quality in postmodern production as internal, within the process of doing science or creating art. Modern science is hostile to postmodernism. (American Society for Cybernetics, University Center, Chicago, Illinois) 20180816. - San Jose Japantown
The intersection, with stop sign installed a month earlier, partially obscured by foliage. (N.4th Street at E. Empire, Japantown, San Jose, California) 20180508 - London Heathrow Terminal 2
Serious roadblocks to guide traffic away from active runways. View is from Terminal 2 gate area B, west view towards Terminal 2 check-in area. Knitting together parallel histories on systems thinking and university research projects. Careers and social ties had intersected many times, but the women had never met. Bonding proved strong when comparing photos on mobile phones of cats. Language switched to Finnish when I left the table, and back to English when I rejoined. Casual Kurdish buffet cafe was a quiet place for 3 hour conversation on a weekday evening.
