- Vegan Raw Festival
Christmas Cannelloni, with zucchini was wrap, red pepper and arugula for festive colours, cheese of cashews, agave, lemon juice and beetroot. Delicious. Free samples courtesy of Jennifer Italiano and her chef, from Live Food Bar (Toronto) 20111203 1438 - Vanilla Rockbund
Colleague out of town presented an opportunity for more deeply acquainting with the spouse. Discussed life in Shanghai, the history and status of Finland over the past 25 years, and upcoming options for residencies elsewhere in the world. No alcohol consumed, it's a school night! Venue was trendier than our usual style, the four millennial women at the next table were preoccupied with their mobile phones, and taking selfies. (Vanilla Rockbund, Beijing East Road, Shanghai, PR China) 20180423 - Cape Sounion
Ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, built circa 440 B.C. Southeast from Athens, A.L. first through eastern small towns, and then along the scenic coastal highway by the Aegean Sea to the end of the peninsula. Perfect day for sightseeing, 24 degrees and sunny, unusual for November. Only a few tourists visiting, so mostly a silent vista of the sea and islands, and time to decompress. - Heliconian Hall
Quintet @Soren_Nissen @TorontoJazzFest performs music inspired by months living in India, composed after return to Toronto. Closing evening of the festival, some exterior signs have already been removed. (Heliconian Hall, Hazelton Avenue, Yorkville, Toronto, Ontario) 20180701 - SystemsThinking/TO
Systemic insurrection after ST/TO formal program. I invited anyone who wanted to discuss "why I disagreed with 90% of the presentation on Innovation Engineering" to pull up a chair, and stay for a chat. Emergent multi-way discussion backed up by theoretical and historical recall by Stephen Regoczei. This was an emergent thread from a one-way talking-head agenda, future meetings may seek to be more participative. Photo courtesy of Chris Chapman. (SystemsThinking/TO, LoyaltyOne, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20180524 - College de France gates
Research education founded 1530, across the street from the older Sorbonne, in the Latin Quarter 5th arrondissement. Statue of Claude Bernard (1813-1878) who first decribed "milieu intérieur", now known as " homeostasis". Late afternoon following morning arrival at Charles De Gaulle airport, so RDI falling asleep at almost every opportunity. We should both feel better after a good night's sleep (Paris, France) 20141226 - SystemsThinkingTO
Dialogue mapping @DerailleurAgile exercise, Compendium software still works well. Reviewed the full meaning of wicked problems, and some of the history with Horst Rittel, West Churchman and Christopher Alexander. (SystemsThinkingTO, King Street East, Toronto, Ontario) 20180222 - Long Museum West Bund
Long taxi ride back over Huangpu River to newly developing West Bund neighbourhood. Enjoyed "Asian Impression" of contemporary Chinese, Japanese and South Korean art. Downstairs gallery included Shi Yongjun (2012) "Daily Routine"; Li Jikai 2009 "On a Dumped Riprap"; Tu Hongtoa (2006) "Pure Landscape"; and Luo Quanmu (2007) "Lost Deer". Also saw the movie set of Yong Fudong (2018) "Dawn Breaking"; of 30-day filming, each day complemented by a video diary of crews at work. Venue is so far upstream on the river that familiar Bund sights aren't visible from the banks. (Long Museum West Bund, Longteng Avenue, Xuhui District, Shanghai, PR China) 20180425 - Thanksgiving dinner
Opening home to extended family and friends, for a non-turkey menu. Main course of Chinese beef stew, plus vegan mushrooms with beancurd sticks (foo jook), gai lan (broccoli), fuzzy melon (dit gwa) soup, beet-carrot salad. Vegan pumpkin pie and coconut milk ice cream to accommodate dietary restrictions. Of all attendees, I was the one who liked turkey most, before I gave up meat. (Riverside neighbourhood, Toronto, Ontario) 20181007 - St. Michael's Family Practice
Medical checkup says no weight gain in the 45 days since cast for Achilles tendon injury was put on. Many years since my last full physical exam, high cholesterol runs in the family, blood pressure is up. Looking forward to behaviour change, made some appointments at clinics, could take 6 months before results. (St. Michael's Hospital, Family Practice Unit, Queen Street West, Toronto, Ontario) 20170209 - Glorious Chinese Cuisine
Family lunch order becomes complicated, as Special A BBQ Duck and Special C Tilipia comes with 6 + 5 dim sum items, but not choices are acceptable. Waitress came back multiple times, new on the job. Weekday event scheduled because weekends are so busy. (Glorious Chinese Cuisine, Denison Street, Markham, Ontario) 20170208 - Green Room
Bright lights in alley led me to find the Green Room, a student hangout bar in the Annex. Was open in the 1970s when I was student, and I never went. Was closed for a long time, then recently reopened. I still don't drink, so it's not a real attraction for me. (Toronto) 20111005 20:28 www.memoryarchive.org/en/The_Green_Room,_Toronto,_1999,_b... - Congee Queen
Family from Vancouver visiting in town, so got generations together for lunch to catch up on news. Restaurant name underscopes the extent of the menu, as the table filled up with food. Hungry sons, no leftovers. (Congee Queen, Agincourt Mall, Scarborough, Ontario) 20180806
