- Sushi Aboard
Last minute coordination for early dinner with nephew, when original plans to visit Vancouver Art Gallery were squashed by them changing their schedule to close on Tuesdays. Restaurant reduces human contact when ordering is done on the overhead tablet, and sushi is delivered from behind the wall via the little boat on the conveyor belt. Conversation graduaally eroded as the easterners who woke up at 5:30am ET were dealing with 7:30pm PT jet lag. (Sushi Aboard, Denman Street, Vancouver, BC) 20230620 - SFO International Terminal
We brought a plane down from Toronto to San Francisco, so that NPI and CL could fly home. Tightly coordinated visits to the Bay Area so that we don't overload all of our California-resident family at the same time. After deplaning, another connection with one automobile headed south on 101 to Sunnyvale, the other going north to Oakland. Maple Leaf Lounge isn't the same, in the pandemic. On way to Vancouver, may visit family, if they can bear the social isolation count below 6 in BC. (Toronto Pearson Airport) 20201023 - SystemsThinkingTO
Relaunch of #SystemsThinking TO @acojoaca @CatarinavM_TO meetup, guiding conversation through #GarethMorgan #ImagesOfOrganization handout http://coevolving.com/commons/20200225-stto-imagesoforganization towards reframing metaphors. Fishbowl for 15-minutes, then breakout into small groups, ending with debriefings. Participant reported enjoying opportunity for dialogue, collectively making sense of ideas. Closed out session with plans for next monthly meeting, format will evolve with experience. Discovered stack of order blanks for our family's restaurant in the 1950s (or 1960s). Header reads: * We Serve Dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. * All meals include Soup, Bread, Butter, Potatoes and Dessert. * Tea, Coffee or Milk with Meal 10c Extra. Footer reads: * Kindly tell waiter if you desire Meals Well Done, Medium or Rare. * Not Responsible for Lost or Mislaid Articles. Was this from the early 1950s, before Chinese food was served in town? Clearing out historical artifacts. (Queen's Cafe, Muskoka Road S. Gravenhurst, Ontario) 20191019 - Tongji U. College of Design and Innovation
Ph.D. students for Quantitative Methods in Design course requested a reprise visit after formal classes ended last week, to discuss with Professor Yi Heng CHENG, who has been travelling. Having experienced the intensive 3-week course, with two full days of group work preparing for presentation, students said they learned a lot, and actually asked Professor Susu Nousala if the session be longer. The formal course is only one step on the journey for graduate studies, ongoing conversations with the faculty can continue for a lifetime. - Sherbourne Commons, south of Queens Quay East, under construction in the spring
Sherbourne Commons, south of Queens Quay East, is still under construction in late April 2009. The ditch doesn't have water flowing, and the sign for No Wading in the pool is superfluous (Toronto, Sunday) 20110424 1700 - Scarborough Beach boardwalk, April sunset (Toronto, Wednesday)
Boardwalk at Scarborough Beach, unseasonably warm evening, eye between two rain alerts. Walkers and cyclists out, light at 8:15 pm (Toronto, Wednesday) 20110427 2015 - When was that building demolished? Front Street East at Church Street (Toronto) 20110428 1815
Building demolished at one of the oldest intersections in Toronto. Front Street at Church Street would have been near the waterfront of the town of York, before landfill moved the shoreline blocks south - Bronze of Lester B. Pearson by Niilo Kalerno Kallio, Toronto Pearson Airport, Terminal 1
A gift from Antti Potila, president of Finnair 1989. The irony is that this bronze is in Terminal 1, after the security scan and overlooking the plaza to the Air Canada domestic gates, while Finnair flies to Terminal 3.
